What is the distance between Earth and Sapphire?

Post by zzone »

What is the distance in light years from planet Earth or our solar system and the Sapphire in the game. Has anyone calculated or was curious to calculate? I'm curious, but never flew to our solar system so I have no way to do the calculation.:)

 It's not necessary to make the trip. If you're at one end (either Earth or Sapphire), simply insert the coordinates for the opposite end into your navigation computer's destination windows. Then check the range readout on your HUD. If that isn't accurate enough, you can use the Travel Buddy.

Additional information: Both the Nav waypoint marker of the HUD and the H2GE Travel Buddy agree ... the distance from the center of Sapphire to the center of the Sol system is 5,158 sectors. You'll need to decide, for youself, how that corresponds to other astronomical units of measurement.

If you want to know because you'd like to 'fly there' then you can save a great deal of time by launching to Sol from Sirius - it's the nearest gated system to Sol. You will need a big fuel tank and some way of refuelling en route though

 The two closest stars (within the gated systems of the Evoverse) are Sapphire and Thuban, at 500 sectors between the two. So, assuming that no two star systems can be any closer than 2.5 light years apart, that would compute to 500 divided by 2.5, or 200 sectors per light year. Ergo, the distance from Sol to Sapphire would be 25.79 light years.

I read on the official website that the distance between Earth and vegas is 25 light years. "Vega is one of the systems closest to Earth, being only 25 light years away."

I tremble to mention it, but that would make a light year 40 million kilometers. I'm trying to remember your quoted times for flying through a sector, but I think it was about an hour, which means that you could could crank your ship up to a reasonable speed, hit Inertial and fly a light year in a week or two.

I know that things are relative but . . . :P
