Hello, I am having a Crash to Desktop when I try to land on planets. I read the forums and read something about a no LAA version of the .exe, but it appears that is no longer hosted. Any help would be appreciated.
I love the game, and thank you!

That will happen when your system runs out of memory and the game can't access the resources it needs. So your system either has insufficient physical memory available or something blocked the game from accessing the memory it needs. Also, if you have Windows 8, you'll need to update to 8.1.
The game is LAA by default now, so you no longer need to apply it externally.

I was able to land on planets fine. Then I closed the game, did some stuff, came back, and I can't land on them anymore without the game crashing.

Without knowing what 'stuff' you did, it's tough to guess. Only advice I can offer without details is to switch the planetary rendering mode (try pre-generated), reboot your system, then immediately launch and test the game. Could be file corruption/damage, but a CTD without an error message while descending into a planet means your system just ran out of memory. Perhaps whatever you ran (and maybe left running) did not return the memory it used and as such, left the game with less than it needed.

Sry, "doing stuff" was not computer related (cooked dinner ;>)From post: 166230, Topic: tid=11144, author=Vice wrote: Without knowing what 'stuff' you did, it's tough to guess. I'll try a pre-generated and then reboot. I did try just pre-generated on its own with no luck. If it happens again, is there a log file I can submit?

There may be a 'CrashOn' file located in the install folder, but under the conditions you describe, it will either be blank, contain a memory error related message, or not be present at all. Have you tried launching it with the 'Run as administrator' option to see if that changes the behavior? Working, then not working later in this way could also indicate interference from a security program you have running. If you complete the steps here, I can review your system for possible causes and solutions: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/faq.htm#8
Guesses at this point without the needed info are that for whatever reason(s), the available physical memory on your system has dropped below around 1.5 GB, or something interfered with one of the game's read/write operations which has damaged one or more of the game files it depends on. If you're running the Steam version, have it also check the local game files.

Thanks for the report, my initial reply included what it relates to. The problem is you are using Windows 8, which has a known memory issue causing intermittent insufficient memory conditions for the game. This surfaces as you descend into a planet atmosphere as the game attempts to load terrain details it needs. You have two options:
- Activate the Windows 7 compatibility mode.
- Update to Windows 8.1 (free from Microsoft).
8.1 adds a number of fixes and improvements to the original Windows 8, so that might be the direction you'd want to go.

So compatibility mode actually works?!? wowFrom post: 166235, Topic: tid=11144, author=Vice wrote: Thanks for the report, my initial reply included what it relates to. Thanks I'll try those two things. I appreciate all of your help.
