NPC questions...

Post by charognard »

Hi all, i m new here too, and loocking for an other space simulation game after the disaster of X-rebirth release... I have started EM 2 days ago, and i really like it and the freedom feeling.
I have some questions about EM and i haven t find answer in the forum...

- Is there any way to speak with NPC pilots ? I see many ships in space, but can i talk with them by radio and have some interactions ( escorte, trade, help, informations...) ?
- Is there anyway NPC / NPC interactions in the game ? As exemple, can i expect to see one day, 2 NPC factions figthing together ?
- Do steam have the latest game version, where can i found my game version ?

Have a nice space day all :)

Hello and welcome.
- Is there any way to speak with NPC pilots ? I see many ships in space, but can i talk with them by radio and have some interactions ( escorte, trade, help, informations...) ?
You can open the trade console with them (once in range) to negotiate trades for items they may have or items you may have. You can also recruit them to join in your single player (offline) fleet. Also, you can ask them for information for hints or tips they may know, which can often come at a price.
- Is there anyway NPC / NPC interactions in the game ? As exemple, can i expect to see one day, 2 NPC factions figthing together ?
Some fight together, some against, some with you, some against you. In some systems, you may find ships from different factions fighting each other. Often a ship that is even affiliated with a faction you are allied with may attack you opportunistically. Ship affiliations do not always determine the threat to you, especially for civilian ships. Plus, keep in mind that each system has their own unique group reputations, so a Navy in one system may be hostile to you while a Navy in another is friendly. Some NPC ships may even come to your defense if your on a green threat level with them and you are being attacked by a red threat level ship.
- Do steam have the latest game version, where can i found my game version ?
Yes, in the main menu at the lower right corner (example: 'V2.728').

 Additionally, you must approach an AI (NPC) to within (IIRC) 500m before hailing him or her (target the AI ... then press F4) to get a response. If you're too far away, you'll be told so in Chat. Pressing F4 will bring up a menu of possibilities ... things you can ask of the AI. I've found that the easiest way to stay in range (while doing business) is to use the "Form" option.

:o About AI coming to your aid ... yes, they will do that. Often at the worst possible times ... like when you're dragging a gaggle of hostile ships down toward a planet to do some "duck shooting" while you're in a terrain walker (currently, all terrain walker contracts are non-hostile). Friendly AI have a habit of dwindling that gaggle down to a single enemy ship.

The reason for having to close to such a close range is because it's kind of hard to (a) trade equipment, fuel or goods at greater distances, (b) even harder to climb from one ship to another, and (c) to keep from transmitting in the clear where every other mercenary can hear what you're saying. As you may have noticed, open transmissions can be picked up across at least one whole sector and, when it's a distress call, at even greater distances.

As for targets ... what kind of target? One selected via the Nav Map or one selected via the HUD's targeting computer?

Press G to cycle target / target list / off.

Don't think you can call for help in SP.
You can hire a fleet tho.
\"Nothing is impossible, it only takes a bit longer!\"
\"We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction!\"

 What SeeJay said. With emphasis on hiring a fleet ... comes in handy when doing contracts in places like Pearl.
