i am having some trouble with the main quest in Sierra, so i figure i would raise my reputation there and have the navy come help me, or just lure the baddies into the navy if they dont come to help. I am starting to think this was a terrible TERRIBLE idea. I spent two days trying to make this happen and i got to navy to 56 and energy to 61 by hunting guilds and rebels but there is still no shift in their attitude towards me. I am still a hostile, i dont know what i am doing wrong so let me give you as many stats as possible.
Energy 61
Navy 56
Rebels 70
Guilds 58
Miners 40
all improvement done by hunting rebels and guilds, i am not a good enough pilot to do 10v1 contracts which seem to be the only ones available.
as you can see everyone has a positive(ish) rating of me so why am i still considered a Hostile? I read that i will lose ALL of the progress i made if i leave the system but it is taking forever and i feel like am trapped.
Also, why WHY does the navy come to the aid of rebels when i kill them? It doesnt make any sense!!! Is it a bug? and more importantly IS THERE A WAY FIX THAT? i wouldnt mind editing the game files it just seems immersion breaking.
thnx in advance and sorry for the wall of text.

Hi and welcome Ranter.
If I recall correct you need to get the reputation towards the Navy to at least 70 before leaving the system to make the change to "Good".
After that it will stay good until you shoot at the Navy or their friends, even if you leave the system or the game.
You can read about Reputation here: http://www.starwraith.com/evochronlegen ... de.htm#220
Regarding why The Navy aids the Rebels I'll leave to someone else that might know the answer.
You can always join MP and ask other pilots to help you with the contract. Most pilots will drop what they are doing to help others.
See ya out there,
SeeJay

The explanation I've heard was to remember that there are two navies - Federation and Alliance - and that despite being officially allies they still haven't fully got over the civil war (which stopped only because of the first Vonari War.)
So, until you get your system reputation up you still risk being bounced by those you thought should be allies!
There is a comprehensive pdf version of a Hints and Tips Guide available from SeeJay's website. It has hints, tips, tutorials and spoilers collected from the community including a comprehensive section on Repuatation but . . . beware of the many spoilers in some of the sections!
Hope this helps a bit.
You could also do the IMG Quest to get experience and credits to up the contracts you can handle

There's an entry in the H2GE, found here: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10428
It helps explain the complicated relationship between factions.
To assist you in completing contracts in hostile systems, you basically have two choices: (1) log on to a server and ask for help (press the Enter key to open a chat window) and (2) hire a crew (six or seven wingmen should do the trick).
Keep in mind that any progress you make toward improving your overall reputation in a hostile system will only be reflected in single-player. And, should you then log on to a server using the same pilot profile, you might lose that progress if the server re-sets you.
