Multiplayer questions

Post by Razgriz »

I've been playing this game for more than a few weeks now and have gotten the hang of flight/combat. But I've recently gone online in the mp servers and found them mostly vacant. So my questions are, is there an active community here that I've just missed? If yes if anyone could tell me what server its on I'd appreciate it.

thanks

Hello Razgriz, and welcome aboard! The MP servers get populated rather infrequently, depending upon where on the planet they're located. And also, it's dependent on the R/L concerns that all of us deal with daily. The Ceti Alpha 5 server seems to be one of the 'more stable' platforms. And, the Chiron Beta Prime server gives me a 'better' ping and FPS rate. I've flown the Brickage and Olympus Prime servers as well. These two, to my knowledge are eastwards, across the puddle. :D It's really a coin-toss which will work best for you. Best of luck! Hope to see you out there some time!:cool:

Hi razgriz!

Part of the problem is the number of servers (we are lucky though that players freely volunteer their resources and time!) but it can spread people out. The other issue is the global distribution of players and hence clashing timezones. I'm in the UK and can play during the day (09:00 - 13:00 (ish) GMT), but the USA is asleep!

Around 21:00 UCT is a good time - Europe hasn't quite hit the sack and USA players are relaxing after a hard day's work!

If you go into the MP menu, list the MP servers and then RIGHT click on each one you will get a list of players logged into that server - a quick way of seeing who's where ;)

Yeah I've done the right click check the server status thing. I noticed that this game has a surprisingly active forum for what seemed to be an empty MP. But even with that I enjoyed seeing how much more "full" the game seems on these servers station wise. Very interesting how this game as a whole is improved by its community vs the typical mmo. where other people are pretty much there to be killed or help you kill the AI. I appreciate the suggestions and the thorough responses. I'll be checking out those servers in particular and whoever these people are who maintain the servers, thanks!

P.S
My Callsign is Razgriz as well, on the off chance you see me flying out there feel free to take a shot, I always enjoy some pvp, even getting trashed by a vet improves my skills.

Hey Razgriz! Very astute observation, re: the game environment and player/community involvement here. A lot of us have 'grown up' with this game/sim, and the community has followed right along in trail. Lots of really sterling individuals, some very gifted/talented artists and craftsmen in the modding arena, and lots of us who are willing and able to assist our newer community members get their 'sea legs' under them. Though PvP is allowed, even encouraged by some as an adjunct to the 'sandbox game', one of the finer points of the 'etiquette' associated thereto is: "ask first, shoot maybe...". Just so you're aware, there are lots of community members who also enjoy PvP, and engage in bouts with those of like-mind rather frequently; even the games' developer has been known to engage in a few bouts of PvP. Point of fact, a few of the server platforms/providers have established locations in their segment of the Evo-verse given over totally to PvP pursuits. Also, a majority of the server platforms, and their highly commendable providers, aren't generally 'in the mood' for 'griefers'/those who tend to prey on other pilots. And generally state as much or similarly, in the log-on messages when one enters a given server environment. There's an sw3dg forum thread that lists some of the current, operational server offerings and the 'rules of conduct' whilst a-flight thereon. You may wish to check those out as well. It's a large enough environment we fly, on any of the server platforms, that you're definitely not 'restricted' to plodding through a 'set piece' every where you turn. There are some game 'limits and conditions', which is only natural. But, there are so many other opportunities and rewards available within the games' framework, that your only limit there is your imagination.... ;)
