I am stuck at the point where I just built the station for IMG and they want me to find a pod lost from a Navy transport.
Maybe I am missing something but there is no way point? Nothing to indicate the general area?
I deployed sensors all over. Jumped all around looking for purple dots. No luck.
How are you supposed to find this thing?
Thanks,
Dorn

First, make sure you've accepted the contract. If there is no contract, then you probably don't need to complete the search. Check to see if you've been given a password to part of the story ... if you don't actually need to complete the search, it should tell you so in the story and then direct you to your next stop in the quest.

Hi Marvin,
There was no contract to accept. Just the message requesting I search for the pod.
The previous quest message said to dock at the new station after building it and then report back.
When I docked at the station, I then got the message to go look for the pod.
The only hint I have is to ,"report back" .
I don't believe that in Seejays Quest there are contracts to accept. I have just been following the IMG messages and progressing that way.

There are contracts. But sometimes they are only mentioned when you're out in space ... usually after completing a previous contract. IIRC, the one you're on now is kind of a red herring ... and I don't remember (off hand) how I solved it. Maybe Dave or SeeJay can help.

Hi Marvin,
Thank you, but I will pass on the Big Spoiler for the time being.
Basically all I was looking for was a hint in this particular situation.
SeeJay is out of touch for a while.
I didn't know that there were herrings in the Evoverse, much less red ones.

sounds interesting! From post: 162994, Topic: tid=10883, author=Marvin wrote:SeeJay's herrings aren't necessarily red ... and most of them are unintentional (from what I can see). Later on this year, it's a distinct possibility there will be another custom quest ... with herrings (of rainbow hue) ... which are quite intentional.

Make sure you have a mining beam installed. If you have no mining beam you will not be able to retrieve the pod or have the ability to accept the contract to do so!........

I found the problem after a mail from Dorn.
He is not doing my quest at all. He is doing the Q4P and I gave him instructions to pass the step where he's at in that one.

Yes Indeed!
And I am consumed with curiosity why the pod is placed where it is, but with no hint of the direction in which to search?
Also, I would have thought that it would show up on a deploy sensor placement, but I couldn't find it.
Thanks,
Dorn

Well, this is certainly fun.
I left the star system and went back to Orion, then returned to the star system and the planet to find my trade station was gone. So I rebuilt the station, (it is a tight fit to get it just right), and yes, as Seejay describes, the pod to recover is under the contract section IMG. And there is a way point to fly to to search from.
So I have spent a few days searching the area of the way point and no pod shows up on the sensors. My searches were both linear X & Z and Vertical Y.
This pod still eludes me.
1. The pod should show up on a sensor station deploy, yes? Surely it can't be further away from the way point than 30 kilometers.
2. Any ideas how to find this guy?
3. Since this pod is in orbit, it is constantly moving, right?
Thanks,
Dorn

Try to accept the contract and jump right away.
Continue on heading/pitch = 0.
It should pop up on your radar.
Or send me the profile and I'll have a go at it.

Hi Seejay,
This is so funny.
I had been self destructing every time I couldn't find the pod and going back to accept the contract to see if I could get something to change.
And this time when I accepted the contract, (shot # 73), the way point was clearly visible both top and bottom view and when I jumped to it, there was the pod blip. I didn't even have to search for it.
So I went chasing over to it and I found it was in the gravity field speeding away from me at 1300 kps.
Contract completed.
WheW!

Wayward Pods
There's an old (but true) story about how the first Jameson dove overboardto save a cask of his Irish Whiskey cut loose during a storm at sea. Less known is how his great, great, great, great grandson saved a cask of very old and rare Irish Whiskey as it plummeted toward a nearby planet and, by accomplishing the rescue, Jameson's descendant introduced a sure-fire method of tracking down and recovering any wayward container, inoperative satellite or fast-moving escape pod.
The cask of whiskey had been part of a shipment smuggled off planet Earth during the chaos accompanying the Vonari invasion of 2287. The smuggler's ship (large and lumbering but with no real means of defense) had been intercepted as it approached one of the planets in the Sirius star system. While the captain began to heave to, Jameson attached a portable Mark II cloaking device to the cask and, while the boarding party advanced along the starboard side, Jameson jettisoned the cask over the port side. It drifted awhile, until the planet's gravity caught hold.
Meanwhile, Jameson impatiently waited as the boarding party completed its inspection. Eventually, the captain was ordered to dock at the local trade station and report to Customs. Jameson hurriedly marked the ship's present position on his navigation map. The ship made its way to the station and, after debarking, Jameson passed through Customs without difficulty. He then rented a stripped down Mammoth, outfitted it with a tractor beam and cargo bay, launched and quickly made tracks for the last known location of his cask of bootlegged whiskey.
Reaching the spot marked on his map, Jameson checked the ship's radar for any indication of a purple blip. No luck. He was dumbstruck. A Class II cloaking device only worked against sensor arrays and naval coast guard vessels. If it was within range, his radar should've picked up the cask.
It was then that he noticed the nearby planet. "Okay," he said to himself, "I sent the cask adrift in the direction of the planet. My mistake. What's done is done. Now I gotta figure out how to track and retrieve it. Hopefully before it reaches the surface ... where, if it doesn't explode and destroy a large chunk of real estate, it will at least make things difficult for the tractor beam. Unless I use a terrain walker instead. Which I don't own and can't afford."
Jameson examined his map and contemplated the sector, the planet, his location and the many paths his cask of whiskey might've taken as it accelerated toward the surface. But one path stood out among the rest. It stood out because Jameson wasn't simply a smuggler of fine Irish Whiskey. Oh no. Definitely not. In this day and age, you needed to be more than just a smuggler if you wanted to be successful at smuggling. You also needed a working knowledge of astrophysics. And, in this situation, the most important astrophysical fact was this one: on any object, a planet's gravity exerts a force, on that object, toward the planet's center.
And so Jameson drew a line connecting the point where he'd tossed the whiskey overboard to a point at the very center of the planet. And then he followed that line to where it intersected the surface of the planet ... hoping to catch up with the cask before it made landfall.

The whiskey\'s expected track to planetfall
Which is where he found his cask of whiskey. Buried in the sand. Ironically, at the bottom of the sea.
Unfortunately, Jameson never managed to recover the cask. It took him almost a full day to save enough credits to buy a terrain walker. By that time, the planet had rotated out from under his marked location in space. Worse, he was attacked by a band of marauding rebels while ensconced in his TW. He did manage to escape from his attackers (having dispatched four or five rebels in the meantime) but figured it was easier (and safer) to go somewhere quiet and distill his own bootlegged whiskey.

OK, I was finaly able to start the Quest where I left of in Beta testing at Report-7. It took me 3 hours to figure out and try to remember what was in the last pod a few days back in the purple nebulae and how to spell was it Yaeger or Yeager!
Just tried all the names of things that can be found in containers
and than I could not remember if you had to start the password with a capital letter or not so I had to dig up the old instructions!....

Let me check my e-mail correspondence with SeeJay, did I save a copy of the e-mailed instructions if so where or did I send them to the recycle bin?
