Bug Confirmed
Hi all,
I've just started playing and currently loving it.
I just have a quick question. If you land at a station or planet and purchase their commodities, when you sell it back to them, you sell it at a profit. Is this supposed to happen?
Regards,
Devok

Can be, depending on where you are selling it. The price should be consistent if you buy something from a station or city and then immediately try to sell it back to that same station/city. But going to the trouble of transporting something -from- a station to a -city- and vice versa can result in a different price result. Not wildly profitable, but still something that'll earn you a few credits for your trouble/fuel/time.

Hi DevokNZ, welcome to the game and forum!.....Hope to see you out there some time!.....

Some times the profit can be huge just from one Station to a Station just 2/3 Sectors away in the same system depending on the situation!
This would fall under the category of Spoilers though!......

Thanks for the replies.
What I mean is buying the commodities from a station and then immediately selling them back to the same station will result in a profit. Ive had a profit of $9k once doing this. It just seems odd.

In the first sector of the game. Also flew to New Hope and tried there. It seems no matter where I land, I can easily make 2k+ Just by buying the few commodities there and then instantly reselling them. I don't remember the name of the commodities. There is 3 there each time. I have ver 2.488 is that's any help.

I can confirm this with v2.488. The commodities here refers to the "purple items"... Diamonds, Metal, Electical stuff.
I've always thought it was "working as intended". The station might sell you a commodity for 2000 but will buy back at the price listed in the News Page... if it's higher per unit, you make a profit. If it's less per unit than what you bought it for, you sell at a loss.
Unlike equipment and weapons, it's not a 1:1 in the buy vs sell ratio.
EDIT - it happens at any station any sector anywhere, FYI.

Yes. The purple items.
I never made the connection between commodity buy price and the re-sell price listed under the News Page. Thanks ELiTe; At least I can now see what's happening. I'm not complaining, but I think this should be addressed. You should not be able to do this in a game that as even the most basic of economies.
Just a small 'whats up' I'm still loving this game. Its like X3 but simplified.

It's something I'll dig into. Once I can duplicate it, it should be easy to fix. I tried to duplicate it and wasn't able to, the buy price was the same as the sell price for all of the commodities I tried. So for me, the buy and sell price was the same and the amount of credits I started with was restored to the original value after every buy and sell event. So there must be some other factor I need to include to reproduce the effect. I'll try it shortly with one of Elite's profiles that he sent me. Also, is it selling the whole set of a commodity or just one unit at a time that is producing this?

Hydrogen (21 units): buy at 4389; sold for 5859
Metal (17 units): buy at 1547; sold for 2074
G1 server, buy and sell immediately on planet Orion Prime. Only items listed in News will work this way (other purple items are a no-go).

Maybe the key there is -city- only and not including -stations- as earlier indicated. I'll continue to test this and focus on cities to try and duplicate it. There is an intended price variation for cities that is likely not properly carrying over to either the buy or sell transaction properly.

Actually I have only "traded" with cities only ONCE - to get the Stealth Generator. All other "trades" I do have been with stations (game-built and player-built).
This variance in prices does NOT always happen. In many cases they are equal. In some cases, you buy and sell at different prices. For example, the most recent time this "variance" was observed is at a station I built, at an uncharted planet NW of Emerald some 600 sectors out.
However I have not observed in detail whether this variance occurs ONLY WITH stations orbiting planets with cities.
If the above condition must be true for this to occur, then Evochron station WOULD qualify since it orbits Sapphire, with 3 cities (or 4, I forget). Olympus Prime also has a station oribiting it if I am not mistaken and the planet itself has a couple of cities.

Profile sent ... along with Event Log. I couldn't get the bug to show tonight until logging on to Cronic's server and docking at the city on Orion Delta. Earlier today, it seemed to work no matter where I docked ... but, at that time, I was on Starbuck's G1 serve, running a different profile (with a lesser reputation) and quite a few mods. Tonight, I used a maxed out profile (Fleet Cmdr and Legend) with zero mods. I also tested (tonight) in SP but that, too, failed to give me instant profits.

Think I've located two issues, one involving cities with separate pricing structures, the other with slight variances in station prices, but only with stations where the player has a license. The first has been fixed for the next update, the second I'm still working on.
