I was taking a look at a new indie game, and noticed that the stations look... surprisingly familiar

There's already been a similar thread to this one.

Yes the models have similarities, but keep in mind developers sometimes license models from artists and sometimes those licenses are very expensive to purchase as an exclusive rights option. Hence, some games legally use the same or variations on the models that are licensed.

It's nothing strange with that.

Vice has explained in here somewhere that lots of Indie devs buy models
from other model devs to use in their games.

Completelly legal!
