I am wondering if it would be possible to have a opt in "Universe-Link" like system that allows two or more servers to form a shared universe between them.
There's a few ways it could be done.
1) Each server is assigned sectors to host and handles those sectors exclusively (player connects to servers as they jump between them).
2) Each server simply relays activity from the other servers into that server (Probably the simplist)
You would need a option to use universe chat or a sector chat so as to be able to reduce the flood of text chat. Same with voice.
Advantages:-
- Multiplayer experience would benefit from having more players in a shared universe.
- Singular Economy for traders
- Reduced load on servers as they only need to load and work with a reduced amount of sectors.
- Less lag for players in geographicly challanged areas like Australia where we just can't realy play on anything outside our country due to crappy home connections.
- Players would just have to click "Join Evochorn Univser" rather than selecting a server, the client could ping all shared universe servers and connect them to the one with the lowest ping for them.
- MP Player profiles could be stored in a central location so that they carry to each server they go to and have no risk of client modification.

This is mearly a question not a demand/request. I just wonder if it could be done, has it been suggested before? if it can't why not? if it can how would you.
Obviously MP Only profile servers would be linked together as would SP/MP Servers.
Anyways... be interested to hear thoughts.

These are great suggestions, and if it was not for a one Man developer of the Evochron Game, "Vice", this surely would be possible.
I can imagine if he had a team of professional network developers he would be able to put something like this together!.....

I realise he is but one man writing the game, i was curious if it had been discussed or mentioned before and of course if it were possible, maybe even already in the pipeline.
That was all.
I mean its not far off I would think, he already has network code place and server code so the option of a relay of sorts between servers surely wouldn't be a far stretch from there.
