What to do in MP? / clans

I kind of know the generalities about things to do in MP, but I got really curious about Clans and why people join them.

Clans are a way for pilots to fly with other pilots of same interests and goals and for a sense of belonging that most humans like.

Not to mention the fact you can't get paid for owning territory unless you're in a clan.
