Custom Weapons
Hi guys,
I'm having trouble coming up with a custom config that I like, that won't blow through my power very quickly.
What do you guys use? I'd like to hear what other people use.
I did switch to a rail gun earlier and it helped me get a q few more shots of before letting off the trigger, and I was able to turn off my beam and do some good damage after I started getting through their shields.

I use a combo that eats energy. maxed out fusion laser and maxed out fusion cannon.
I love the heavy punch it provides.
But I manage my energy settings in combat and switch to cannon only after my targets sheilds are down.
I rarely run out of energy in a fight.
also, the class of ship your in may have a lower power reserve than others
point is;
heavy energy use is not a bad thing if you manage it well.

Yes, I was using maxed out Fusion Cannon and Laser too, but to be honest, I have a hard time keeping my targets shields down, or telling they are down at a crucial moment, tbh. Because it happens at a very quick pace, or I can knock out their shield and then by the time I am lined up again for guns the shields are back up, etc..
I have found that simply brute forcing them with full weapons usually throws them down quickly.
I haven't tested my new combo on Vonari yet, but I have modified my rail gun for less energy consumption and lower firing rate and also switched to a maxed out Refractor Laser. It seemed to work well in the brief test I did against a Red target, and my power was able to keep up.
My overall goal is to at least be able to stay in a -1 Weapons / +1 Shields state using bursts of fire. Which does work quite well after you drop their shields, you can start bursting and it gives your energy time to stabilize, or even climb back up.
Currently I am flying a Wraith in Talison War Zone. I haven't decided if I will go back to my Starmaster for other things yet (re-hiring a crew would be a pain in the ass every time). But I'm hoping to work my way up to an Evoch frame, and from there perhaps things will get better with fuel capacity and such that I won't need to worry about keeping a civ frame for exploration.
btw.. are there military frames that get more than 1 cargo pod?

Do you have a Cannon Relay Sys and Heatsink installed?

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I've got a Relay. I wasn't aware there was "Heatsink" equipment though. I've never seen it before.

I maxed my Cannon and Beam for max yield, range (a must), and energy consumption.
After a couple of tests with the (sarcastically) realistic AI, I found out that the maxed Beam had a much higher energy consumption than my Cannon.
Now I rarely ever use my Beam anymore and concentrate on my Cannon.
I am able to shoot forever without interruptions at -2 S / +2 W.
Using a Cannon Relay but "no" Heatsink is a must if you concentrate on energy efficiency.
My ten cents
