Sometimes you just have to restart from scratch

Post by Zach »

Well, it pains me.. After 11 hours I have to scrap my pilot and start over. I can't think of any other way to salvage my situation :(

I made the unfortunate mistake of saving in the middle of nowhere during an ill-equipped exploration mission.

I saw this patch of black space near Virgo, on the Territory map, and thought it would be fun to explore that. But I ended up having to leave to go somewhere and saved, thinking nothing of it (having not saved since I left Virgo).

Of course I realised what I had just done, immediately AFTER I had saved but....ahh, yeah.

So here I am in the middle of nowhere, with 417 fuel and a maximum jump capability of 10 sectors. I even tried pointing myself at the closest system (Thuban) and managed to drift my way up to 7k/MPS (assuming its meters per second) but I soon saw by the rate at which my icon was traversing the map screen, that I would probably have to come back in a month or something.

Hopefully, this time, my previous experience will help me out a little more. All because, despite my capacity of 2000+ fuel, I kept balking at the price to fill my tank.. Even at my own station. I did mean to put SOME fuel in, but, well, at least I can't ever claim I don't procrastinate

Log on to the Ceti Alpha V server and I'll come bring you some gas, for free.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

I have three (3) different pilot saves - same toon
And I back up my pilot directory every night.
I know this is a bit late and I am not going to say 11 hours is nothing.

I will say I do feel for you, playing 'alone' in a game as this ya gota do extra things.
I'll say no more - good luck with your new toon

 And, before you try it again, go to SeeJay's website, download and install the H2GE Nav Computer. It'll let you know, before you start out, how much fuel you'll need.

I didn't think this work with steam-bought game version - am I wrong??

"E:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Evochron Mercenary\\EvochronMercenary.exe"

AND

C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary

Ya most will be drive C

I'm not sure. If you can get Vice's savedatasettings file to generate the savedata file, then it can work ... 'though I might need to adjust the program so it looks in the correct directory.

I'm fairly certain my steam key should work with the non-steam version though. I've seen instructions on the forum for how to get it and apply it, from Vice in the past.

I appreciate the offers for help, but its OK. Starting over did me some good anyhow :)

I am actually a little better off than I was before.

I did a straight run to Rucker, sold everything I had, then started making trips back and forth between there and Virgo. Until I had enough to start buying Fuel Converters, got myself 9m cash, and decided to go a little further into Aquila. Glad I did, things are much cheaper :P there despite having one of the highest economy levels... I guess I need to find and read a good analysis of the economy..

Here, see for yourselves..

When I bought my Guardian, and customized it, it cost me over $8 million

I was shocked. But I feel much better about where I am now. I also have only put 2h:40m on my clock so far. I also have all my stations rebuilt. The last/only thing I have to regain to be back where I was, is a Mantis Jump Drive and about 6m cash (I have 3.8m currently).

This is good progress. And now I will call it a night.

(btw.. are there better drives than the Mantis?)

 Nice screenshot. Just last week, it would've come in handy ... explaining to another player how to scale parts of his ship.

I was surprised it scaled down so well from 1080p myself. Feel free to use it if you ever need it.

When I play online, I will most likely be on Starport 6, under this name.

I set up my Trade Station (Starport Gemini) with supporting stations, in Virgo, hopefully no one minds
