Roadtrip

Post by Lupus »

Hey guys!

So im going on a bit of a roadtrip around evochron, im gonna take some pics while im out there, there are a few places on my list

1) Sol
2)Vonari system
3)Riftspace (on the way to various places, not wanting to add too many spoilers)
4) Andromeda? Can you go there?
5) THAT system with the UFO's

As such, so as to avoid confusion, if you see me flying without the clan tag, that's why, im not near known space.

Wish me luck guys, I'll post any problems here!

Good luck on your trip.

Yes, you can go to Andromeda.
(Bring a deploy constructor and a tractor beam;))

OOC: On seejays site, it says andromeda... do i mean actarius? Lol.

//BEGIN RECORDING////CURRENT POSITION; SX -1205, SY 0, SZ -2282//

Picked up my Mammoth cargo ship today - i missed you, baby, sorry ive been spending so long on that fighter. I henceforth name her Jumper - that seems to be all im going to be doing, so it seems appropriate.

Image
Getting ready to go

Posted my request for leave with KingArthur, hope he's ok with it. Packed afew crates of beer, my SplosivesCorp tablet and aload of games and movies. Other essentials like food, toiletries and tea are also on board, along with freeze dried coffee tablets - 2 metric tonnes of them. Oh yeah.

Done all my calculations, and i figure i can get to Sol easy enough, i'll worry about the others later.

Not bored yet, got my music pumping and enjoyingthe view! Enjoying the isolation (OOC: I am actually just staring at the screen listening to music with the EQ turned on the make it sounds like its echoing through my dashboard PA)

Currently in route to Sol, calculated at ~50 jumps with mantis using around 10 fuel per jump - i got enough in my girl Jumper, i think.

Image
What are you doing way out here?

Will check in later, pilots! Hope this thing sends out here... I get comms connection though, but nobody online, ah well...

Andromeda is way up "north" and you can go there.

Actarius is the system you want in step 5! (Also on my site)

OOC: Any way to remove the reticule from the prnt screens im taking? and how do you add pictures to the posts?

//BEGIN RECORDING///CURRENT POSITION SX -1598, SY 0, SZ -2048//

I FOUND IT!

I found the gate!

Image
BINGO!

I'm sitting in my refuel station getting ready for the Riftspace, but i found it! I got some pictures to prove it! Im happy, but nervous - one more post today, fellow Spacers, then i'll have to hit the sack, a long day of flying ahead tomorrow... Talk when i've found a safe space in the Rift to sleep for the night.

Image
Final refuelling before the Riftspace

Wait a sec, what is a Naval pilot doing out here...

//STATIC//

Hey pilot, what are you doing here?

//NEW VOICE DETECTED// DO NOT APPROACH THAT GATE. DO NOT MOVE ANY CLOSER, CLOSE YOUR STATION, AND LEAVE. OR I WILL SHOOT.

Hey, wait a secon.. //ERROR; SOUND UNIDENTIFIABLE//

Aw, Stars! Hold your fire, Pilot! Hold your... thats it, i have to do this, im sorry, pilot... Stars help me...

Image
I didn't wanna do it...

I've found if I "dock" the mouse pointer bottom right of the screen it disappears after a few seconds.

If that's not possible because of the shot you are taking, park the pointer in a blank bit of space and clone it out in a graphics programme - quick and easy

Finally and a bit more drastically, edit the pointer until it's not very noticeable, but obviously any mouse operated actions you want will be harder! :D

I do use a joystick though! If you use mouse and keyboard it might be harder to deal with :)

OOC - nah, i'll just have to deal with it - i'll have to work out a way of taking outside pictures that is in character - maybe some kind of deployable camera... Splosives? Got any devices? Lol

Adding pictures involves posting them on a website first and then inserting a link to them in your post, between a header/tailer:

Use png - they give better results if you've resized them or done a bit of cropping or removing the mouse marker :) I use Gadwin Screenprint - you can set it up to take png's by default and it's simple and unobstrusive and powerful.

You can upload files directly into your post but the size limits mean that people will be looking at your holiday postage stamps!

If you come across anything really really awesome, please let me know - I'm creating a "Seven Wonders of Evochron" Tour Guide and still have a few slots left (anyway it can always become "The Nine Wonders . . . ." :D

Lupus, if you're still wanting to remove the reticule from your pics... one way is to cycle through HUD mode (default "H" I think)... the 3rd HUD mode is without anything obscuring the windshield (can you call it a windshield if there's no wind in space?).

You can toggle thru kybd "H" and "V" until you get the photo aspect you like. "H" will take out the targeting reticule, in one of the toggled views. As DaveK suggested, park your mouse/pointer somewhere, it will eventually disappear (few seconds) off screen.

OOC; alright i'll try them out later with the gadwin thing. The problem is a can't do the whole docking thing - to move the mouse and not the ship i need to press alt, but i can't do alt printscreen... hm...

 From the ReadMe ...
The Navigation Computer is a small C# program which provides additional information to pilots journeying long distances across the Evoverse. Information available includes:

Current status of inertial. If you've got IDS engaged, the engines will attempt to bring your ship's speed to zero after every jump. Consequently, you'll burn more fuel between jumps.

Current status of energy bias. When traveling alone, optimum setting for energy is to minimize power to the shields and maximize power to weapons. This allows for faster regeneration of energy, less time between jumps and, therefore, a shorter time transiting from one point to another.

Range to jump point. While your ship's navigation computer is in the process of calculating the next jump and/or engaged in jumping, the distance of the jump is displayed. This lets you know if your current jump drive is performing as advertised.

Range to destination. During energy charge-up time and before the ship's computer has calculated the next jump point, the total remaining distance to your destination is displayed.

Estimated time enroute (ETE). Displays a readout of how long it should take to get to your destination (assuming you have autopilot engaged and allow it to remain engaged for the duration of the flight).

Fuel consumption. The minimum amount of fuel, in Evounits, it will take to get to your destination. Some slop is expected (due to how the ship's computer calculates three-dimensional jump points) and is indicated as a plus-or-minus number of units. To be perfectly honest, the slop is more likely to be on the positive side ... but probably not more than seen in the display. Very seldom (if at all) will you require the lesser amount of fuel.

 The actual program window is slightly smaller than what's posted. I sometimes keep it in the foreground when writing, reading forum posts, or chatting on Gmail. It's a great help when I'm heading for one of IM's territories out in the boondocks. Or when traveling long distances in SP.

One thing I noticed last time I did a system to system by fulcrum drive is that the calculation isn't straight line any more. For about 90% of the journey I stayed at Y=0 and then on the last 30ish jumps, the Y coord increased by 1 each jump until it reached the desired Y=27 - a straight flat flight until nearly there, then a 45 degree climb at the end. Over a long journey I expect it will add a few jumps (2 sides of a triangle) but haven't done the trig yet.

:)

If this isn't another add-on available from the creator of HHGE, then it will definitely live on my 2nd monitor :D

//BEGIN RECORDING///CURRENT POSITION MARS STATION, SOL SYSTEM//

So after a long night, flying through Riftspace and having my camera-probe eaten by some astral...probe-eating thing, I am almost ready to sleep. I have such a long day...

...RUNNING AROUND ON PLANETS! AWWWW YEAH!

Image

PLANETFALL!

Ive had a run around Mercury - boring - and Mars - red - and im loving it!

Image

Image

Beautiful Martian surface, and enjoying the Mars architecture.

But next comes the final challenge of this system... Earth. Wish me luck guys! ive gone through a lot of coffee tonight, and im running low on rations... my tablet is almost out of battery, I hope this gets through, have to rig up my solar charger soon. And there's that strange hissing noise when I hit the afterburners.

Oh well. Earth first.

Lupus, signing off for another night.

Image

Im coming for you, Earth...
