old laptop

Post by Maledictus010 »

Hi all,

I have a rather old laptop that could just about handle EM before the expansion. Now the game is no longer playable, which is understandable but depressing. I have the game on Steam so the updates are automatic. Also, I don't like the idea of having to miss out on the new features by simply sticking to the EM game from before the expansion.
I've seen tips here and there that could help improve FPS, things involving creating text files to disable shaders and such. Is there any consolidated piece of info that has all these tips together? I can't seem to find these bits of info any more. Thanks for any info.

Pop your specs into the tech thing and follow the guidelines for Vice. Also, try running Razer game booster - its helps me a lot on my old rig :D

You could update your drivers, and there may be 'performance enhancers' you could get, but I happen to know of a trick that worked WONDERS for me in Skyrim. It also seemed to occasionally have effect in other games, but if so, the effect was very subtle.

Its a DLL generator that can make a d3d9.dll to custom fit your card. I have no idea why it works, and for all I know, it might just fix a problem unique to Bethesda games, as it worked for Skyrim and New Vegas. I found it on the New Vegas site after being referenced by Skyrim players. As I said, I don't know if it merely fixes a problem unique to Bethesda games, but it made Skyrim go from "struggling" to "handling nicely". It SEEMS to have helped other games I've played that don't run perfectly, but if so, the effect is so subtle, I can't tell.

I also can't find the file! Maybe it got taken down? Anyway, I posted it for all to dl here.

Forgot to mention, to use it, in Skyrim all we had to do was drop into the same folder as the executable, in our case, TESV.exe. So open this zip file, run the generator, and it'll figure out what kind of card you have, then make a dll for you. That dll is what you put in the folder with the .exe file, in this case, EvochronMercenary.exe.

Again, I don't know if it'll work, but this is the only time I've ever seen such a 'magic fix' like this. Worth a shot!

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. As said, I want to work with the game and not with my setup to make things playable. Driver updates are not possible; the card is a mobile version and will only take Dell drivers (the MOD fix doesn't work for this range of cards). Anyway, I'll try finding these txt fixes again, or maybe purchase an older version of the game.

Mine are:
1.6 Intel Dual Core, 1024 Gb internal, ATI X1300 mobility.
So barely enough to actually even run the game, but it did okay with details turned down a bit. Unfortunately not so with the expansion.
