6-Axis Joysticks?

Post by 9jack9 »

Hello EM community,

I just picked up this game during the steam sale, and I can't believe I hadn't heard about it before. What a fantastic bit of software... loads of fun!

Anyway, I configured my Xbox 360 controller for flight, and have been using it with my keyboard, and it's working well enough, however I quickly realized another computer accessory I already own could potentially work much better.

I have a 3D Mouse (SpaceMouse Pro) from 3DConnexion. I use this tool to aid myself with work I do in 3D modeling (mostly SolidWorks). You can see more about the device here: http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacemousepro.html

The thing is, the knob on this device actually is a 6-axis analog input. It can rotate, and it can traverse in all axis (ever so slightly). Having this device handle the piloting of the ship would be amazing, however I have no idea how to go about configuring it as such. The PC doesn't register this mouse as a "joystick" or "game pad" or anything as such. A quick google search didn't turn up much, so I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with these 3D mice with this game, or if there is another 5-6 axis joystick that would work well.

Hi 9jack9, welcome to the game and forum!.....Hope to see you out there some time!.....;)
That looks like a cool Device!
Did you try the in Game Control setup for Mouse or Keyboard? Does the Device come with a programming software? I do not think that there are any players out there using that Device for the Game!....;)

While having the 3D mouse hooked up, I messed with the various axis, however it didn't register anything on the analog bars.

There is a configuration for the buttons of the spacemouse (you assign each button to a keyboard key, which would frankly make the 3D mouse even more awesome), but I don't see a way to attach the motion of the 3D mouse to a specific... or I guess, generic function.

I've emailed the company making these to see if they can support this game, it's a bit of a long-shot, but figured why not.

What if you asign those Keyboard Keys that you asign to the 3D Mouse in game in the Keyboard setup....It will be like you are asigning the Keabord Keys to the Mouse!....;)

6-Axis Joysticks?

Updating this thread in case anyone else comes across it. I got 5 of the axis of this 3D mouse to be recognized by EM, through the use of 3DConnexion's Anywhere drivers (currently in beta). The drivers can be downloaded here: http://www.3dconnexion.com/supported-so ... where.html

Not sure why the 6th axis isn't being picked up...
