This may not work for everyone, but since the new update a lot of users are complaining that the game crashes while loading. There are a whole bunch of different errors, but namely something won't load or doesn't exist, or height is wrong, or whatever.
If you're experiencing this when trying to log into a multiplayer server, log your character into single player, warp to an empty place in space, save, and log into the multiplayer server again.
If you crash again, repeat this, but fly to another empty sector of space.
The spot you warp to should have no stations or planets in it.
I've seen this work with a few of my friends, now. The update may have adjusted the place where objects are located, or how they're accessed. When your game loads, the info doesn't match up, and you crash.
So, to recap.
- Log into single player world.
- Warp to empty sector (no structures or planets in sight)
- save and log out.
- Attempt to reconnect to your multiplayer server of choice.
- Repeat until it works.
I'd say if it doesn't work for you after 4 or 5 tries, there is another problem.
Most people who've done this method have reported success on the second or third time.
If you can log into single player, then the game is fine, it's the unmatching data of your client and the server.
If you can't access single player with an existing character, make a new one and see if you can log into single player with that. If you can, there's a problem with the player data, butthe game is fine.
If nothing works and you can't load into single player with a new or old character, something's wrong with your game.
If you're on Windows 8, remember to right click the evochron exe, go to properties, compatibility and set it to Windows 7.
Good luck and happy flying, all.

Thanks for the welcome. I played Evo a while ago, version 1.88 I think, so it's not my first time
I've updated the title of this thread to make it a bit more clear as to its purpose.
Since posting this, about six of my friends have experienced crashes when logging onto a multiplayer server. This has worked, everytime.
I've read some posts from Vice asking for mscnfg and crash logs and such, so he can understand what's going on. I haven't seen my method suggested so I'm curious if this will shed some light on how these errors are occurring. It has something to do with mismatching data between save files and server object location.
Anyway, that's that from me.
Happy flying, EVO pilots.
And thank you immensely for this tremendous game, Vice and friends.
I've pushed ten people to buy the game this week, just doing my part.

The 2.208 update should solve all non-memory resource related loading error messages (heightmap png files and collision related).
