Velocity control locks up

I'm experiencing a problem, which is driving me nuts. I have loaded the Evochron Mercenary game - the 1.828 version. I have experienced the same problem with the later 2.108 version.

Shortly after I start playing the game the velocity control locks and it acts like it's in the Inertial mode. I can no longer control the speed or direction that I'm traveling in, and I'm not able to stop whatever velocity has been set (by who knows what). If I'm in one of the space stations and I try to leave, nothing I do to the velocity control will increase the velocity beyond 40-50. I can burn all my fuel just trying to leave the station. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game a number of times with a very good uninstaller program, so I know I'm starting with a clean version. I have reduced all the graphics settings that I can find to minimum.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated

First question: Did you accidently engage inertial mode (space bar)?

Maybe you hit "M" to match your targets speed?

That would be the second question. If you target a ship sitting in a trade station, it might not go anywhere. So, if you're matching speed or in formation ....

The problem is still happening. I've been careful about not hitting "M", or "Form on target", or "Auto pilot". What I have found is that the velocity control locks up after about 20-40 minutes of game play. If I get out, reboot the machine and start the game again it clears up. It acts like the memory (of which I've got 4GB) gets full and isn't able to clear what ever it has stored in it.

What control device are you using? When this happens, what is displayed in the Windows joystick configuration menu input bar graph for that axis channel (if you are using a joystick)? Unless you are running out of fuel or setting formation/speed mode, I can't think of another explanation other than a defective control device or its driver.

Maybe also you are pressing by accident the Number Keys(Not Numbers pad) which sets the speed at a certain %....
