:o Yup. Windows 8 is a "social media" platform ... not really designed for games.

Well, my ol' girl can handle tf2 and evochron, after a bit of tweaking and disabling. A little dodgy on startup but after she warms up she be smooth like ma grannies skin, mmMHMM.

I'm pretty sure Vice would be very interested in anything you may encounter. He probably wouldn't mind if you could make detailed notes if something goes tits up. ;)

windows 8 is soooooooooooooooooo watered down , its more like windows 98 when it comes to any serious performance its all show sparkles and glitter. We had to downgrade on another PC because of so many hardware issues. :(

Heh , lel

It does seem that Windows 8 has a lot of hardware compatibility issues, possibly causing many of its intermittent performance and stability problems that are so widely reported. Here was one example from someone who had a 3 month old Lenovo laptop that the MS support rep said wasn't compatible with Windows 8 (?): http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2012/11/20/ ... led-my-pc/

The intermittent behavior of Windows 8 has been difficult for me to contend with as a developer. When I've been testing and troubleshooting on it, it will sometimes work fine for hours, then start failing later on. It's works one day, then fails the next. Today is one example. I tested my game on a Windows 8 system (Nvidia display system ironically) for a long session and it worked fine. Descents to the planets worked fine. But just a day or two earlier, the same exact setup would intermittently stumble and crash. Makes it difficult to try and determine causes or test work-arounds when the target keeps moving :) It's lack of compatability and stability for other programs has resulted in me using that system for nothing else other than Windows 8 testing as new drivers and Windows updates come out.

Hopefully, they'll get things sorted after some driver updates and Windows updates. Some things probably won't be addressed for a while, if ever. As just one example (although there are several), I really miss Flip3D as a developer. I often have numerous tasks open and like to flip through them in near full screen detail to clearly see what each one contains. Small icons don't provide me with enough information to see what's going on (especially if I have several session of a program like notepad open). So it's a pretty serious issue for me that MS deleted that feature from Windows 8.

Vice - i agree, there are a lot of hardware issues that have been reported, and i got hit bad by one as well, my laptop lost power when updating, so when i rebooted, it ran auto repair. auto repair didnt work, so i proceeded into win8, thinking it would just skip it. it starts teh scan again. this repeated itself - to access win8 it had to scan, but i can't get past it.

eventually i had to reinstall windows. *sigh*

so yes, hardware probelms are an issue, but with my particular laptop im getting fine results with evochron. i dont really think there is any need to do a win8 specifically tested build, as win7 programs work fine. the only real thing i can see coming that would be bad for you would be any outdated drivers or video cards, but it seems to be handling that ok - i have a terrible card, lol.

But, as far as your game alone is concerned - no problems here :)

Well, the good news is that, knowing how M$ goes about their products, Windows 8 will probably be (almost) bug-free around service pack 283, maybe a bit later. Until that time, I would simply say: stay away from it. From what I've seen so far from it, it's just plain crap, sorry to say. If M$ don't find a very quick and satisfying solution for it and the customers that already have a buggy copy, I deeply hope that they will lose even more market share, so there's room for other OS developers to have a go at it.

Don't you just love M$ marketing strategies... Try checking the net for a laptop with W7 on it, or maybe even without any OS. You'd definitely spend less money that way and there are lots of ways to obtain W7 even if they don't sell it anymore. You probably know what I mean.

Oldeggs still have better values over any Newegg, but you have to make sure they are in different baskets!...;):P:cool:
