custom mod ship in steam version?

Post by zeppeldep »

hi there .. I am trying to add my own ship in the steam version of EM.
in this example I tried replacing the wraith with my own design.
saved my model to frame23.x ... copied file and texture file to c:\\steam\\steamapps\\evechron mercenary ... but my model did not load when running.
there are two files that appear to be data files, namely:
evochrondata.evo
evochronmercenary.pck
surely I need to add my files to one of these?
thx .. zeppeldep

Did you add a 'ships' folder for the mod in your EM directory? It's more or less structured to parse files inside certain folder names: ships, environment, hud, etc. and replace original files with mods when loading.

ok ... I did that ... now I have a response when starting... error 7026 'you must link limbs in chain sequence at line 80346'
I created the model in blender .. exported to directx x from there...
now to learn how to solve this ... or maybe use a different 3d modeller..
thx for the help and patience..

... I tried joining .... same error .. then spent hours trying different 3d model apps, created simple objects and exported to directx . Every attempt resulted in the same error. Then i used the frame40-samplemesh.x provided with EM custom .. success! i had a look at the data. The blender exported directx structure is not the same, header parts missing. I noticed another directx ship file supplied with EM custom, ship2.x . This file strcture is similar to the blender export, i tried it .. same error occurred in EM. There are probably a number of directx addons available for blender, I am probably using the wrong one.

PROBLEM SOLVED! browsing all day .. searching .. reading .. trying ... eventually I found the solution for Blender users. The solution is another utility 3D app named LITHUNWRAP .. the name of this app is incorrect.. this is the 3D app for 3D artists that solves 3D file conversion problems . In my case I loaded the X file created from blender and saved it to a new X file .. the new one WORKS in EM ... yippeeeeee...
next week I will start my new fleet of ships and upload them here for viewing..

I always work in .obj format
it 's supported by most 3d software
then use lithunwrap to convert my .obj to .x
and vice versa. works every time for me.
good discovery there.
