install question

hi all do i need to install the first game then update to expansion or can i just install the expansion. have just bought the game

You can do either. The expansion is a full install of the game, but it will also act as an update to the latest version if you already have the game installed.

Because of the relatively small download size, just about every update is a full version of the game. If you watch while the Install is in progress, you can see what an update really does: it unzips itself and then replaces some of the current files. Which is why your mod folders are safe from being deleted.
