Secondary control for switching between mouse and mouse piloting

Post by Guhndahb »

I prefer "Mouse Direction Rev Y" for my flight control scheme. However, I dislike having to hold down the Alt key to use cockpit controls.

In X3, with some finagling, I have it such that I can toggle with a momentary keypress between controlling the ship with the mouse and operating the mouse normally, and I've come to depend on that control scheme.

Is there a key I can use that toggles between the two modes? If not, is there a proper place to request such a feature? Thank you.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, there's just no way I can see that working. I'm an old hand at remapping keys and making specialized macros for my games and sims. But the key that currently allows it, and only when pressed continuously, is the Alt key, which cannot be remapped and is used for modifying many other keys.

Therefore, I believe the only way this could work is if there is a key dedicated to the purpose, press/release once and mouse acts like a mouse, press/release again and mouse resumes flight controls. I was just hoping there already was one. I scoured the shortcut listing for 10 minutes and couldn't find one, but I knew it might just be named something I wasn't expecting.

Beyond clicking on cockpit controls which I usually do with keyboard shortcuts anyways, the main reason I like this ability is because it disconnects mouse input from the flight controls which is how I like it when I'm not actively flying (autopilot, flying in a straight line, etc.), but I can resume control at the press of a button. It's hard to describe, but it just works nicely and with hundreds of hours of playing this way in X3, I've become very accustomed to it, and would love to be able to do it in SW3D games as well. Thanks.

F10, I think. I've accidently pressed that a few times and it disconnected my joystick and put me in mouse-control mode.

Thanks Marvin. I had tried that and that invokes Mouse Look mode, which admittedly fits one criterion, that being it disables mouse flight controls. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow using cockpit controls.

I may try using that as a substitute since I generally use keyboard shortcuts anyways. Nevertheless, I still think having a toggle as I described would be a good feature to be added, assuming I'm not still overlooking it.
