I, personally, have never had that problem, ever. I've used Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and the dreaded Internet Explorer.
Never a problem with any of them effecting any of my games.

Right now I use Internet Explorer 9 and the gaming forums report this browser as buggy. I am thinking of switching to Chrome. I tried Firefox and thought it was OK.

mercenary does not use your internet browser for multiplayer connections.
the only way your browser would effect the game is by surfing the net while playing.

Yes Firefox has memory leaks and has had them for several years while Internet Explorer has a ton of security flaws. I'm not saying Chrome doesn't have problem but that's what I use exclusively now. For normal PC gaming it will only have an effect if you have your browser open while playing. For browser games it depends on how they wrote them and how the plugin or application interacts with the browser.
