I've played X3, but couldn't get deeply into it. Never built my own station. As previously mentioned you fly from box to box, buy stuff at x, sell at y. There was never the feeling of true space except for when you passed the capital ships. The long loading times flying through jumpgates put me off at the time. You'd whizz through them now with a small SSD. A player brought out a trading sheet, where to buy, where to sell and at what price, and from there it became repetitive buying and selling at the same locations over and over and over.
I can see Evochron growing over time, incorporating a little more trading, and it would add to the atmosphere to see NPC capital ships the size of Plymouth passing by. I have no particular desire to fly one, but they would add a great deal to the realism of the game, giving you a deeper sense of space and size.
I hope to join in soon once my rig is up and running, though I don't know if I could play multiplayer with only a 20Mb connection.

X3:TC is an awesome game....but you get a completely different feel...more like trying to build your own empire and control fleets(as others here have mentioned).
Evochron gives you a personal touch the galaxy type of play. You always run your business from your little ship and can fly down into the atmospheres of planets, into asteroids, and nebulas. Things you just can't do in the X series and make Evochron unique and fun.....then there's multi-player on top of that.
My perfect game would be a combination of both games....X with planetary decents and ability to build on planets. (Sigh)...one day......

I would agree with that analogy. In the X series, there is the sense of fleet or empire building, I loved what they did with adding side missions in Terran Conflict because sometimes I just want to jump in for some quick play time, but now that is getting old.Originally posted by tk7223

What I love about the Evochron Series is that you get as close to realism as possible. I have not seen any game that can duplicate all the features and content you find in this game.
I don't know if game is the right description, because I would call it more of a true space flight sim.
The realism in this series is what has me hooked.

I can't but echo what others have said. I prefer Evochon because I dislike the 'interconnected boxes' of X3. I also prefer Newtonian physics.
Evochron Mercenary is my first foray into the Evochron universe. I've tried demos of previous titles, but I only recently took the plunge. I didn't have high hopes, my purchase was more of a decision to help fund a developer in a dying genre, than anything. However, I quickly grew to fall in love with the game.
To me, it feels like a modern take on the Independence War titles, which I had loved. The multi-player experience has me hooked. It scratches the "Eve Online" itch that I develop from time to time. I hope it catches on because I'd love to see active Clan vs Clan warfare. I think if the demo had a special demo only multiplayer server, we'd see even more newcomers.
