state of the multiplayer

Post by Finarfin »

Hi everyone,

I recently stumbled over this game and gave the demo a try. So far I am quite impressed and consider buying it.

I do have some question about the multiplayer portion of the game. Is there an active multiplayer community at all and more importantly, is there something meaningful to do in multiplayer apart from randomly flying around?
I read somehwere you can claim space with stations in multiplayer or something like that which sounds pretty cool but overall I am unsure what the multiplayer really is like.

Thanks in advance,

Hello and welcome to a great sim/community.

There is an active community on the Server Remula 1.

There is a lot of fun in MP. You can do contract together with other pilots.
Some also go "Dry" (No fuel left) and scream for their mom's in fear of the enemy.:P
You could then do a Search and Rescue mission to assist.
Dock with him/her and transfer fuel so they can make it to a station or planet.

They might also need protection if they are beaten up badly.;)

You can also link together with another pilots ship where one of you are pilot and the other Gunner.
Really cool feature.:D

Claiming space is also a cool feature. You can build stations and you also benefit from transactions in the
sector you "own". Player-built stations can be destroyed, so clans fight for territories all around.

I just love it, and I'm not even a member of any clan. I explore and fight together with whoever is online if
they want me by their side.;)

Hope to see ya out there in MP.

Hi, and welcome to the forum, and, hopefully, the game. MP has many advantages over SP. For a start there's real human pilots who, you can either form up with, to do the various missions. Not that you have to do missions, unless you want to increase your military rank. You can speak to the others via typing, or real speach, via the built in voice comms, or an outside comms unit like "Teamspeak".

Initially, the best, imho, feature of MP is being able to ask for advice; there's quite a steep learning curve in ME. You can colaborate with other players, or fight them, PVP. What you do is entirely up to yourself.

Don't knock just flying around. Flying around is an experience in itself, and, you never know what you'll discover "just flying around".

There's also a thriving mod community, very good modders too.

The game doesn't cost much, and is more than well worth the purchase price - jump in, and have fun!

MP is also free - I've heard that some games charge for the priviledge :D

Apart from "reputation", everything you have/get in SP is there for you in multiplayer and vice versa. :D

If you are really stuck with something, you can get lots of help in MP :D (but watch out for Romulan and Oasis ;) )

Welcome to the forum :):)

 Saw you on ... that server of which I can never remember the name (MMaggio's server). You caught it at a very slow time (slow day, actually ... must've been a football game on TV) but at least you got the Server himself to drop in and greet you. Next time, stay a little longer and ask a few questions (if you have any).

I was very short on time then. :)

So what are the essential/recommended mods for the game? So far I installed the improved nebulae backgrounds and warp effect one.
