Features I\'d love to see

Post by Stormfury »

First off, Vice you've done an outstanding job. This game is addicting as ....! A nice refreshing change from the overpriced, beaten in 6-8 hour games from the big companies. Thank you.

My buddies and I just got the game this past weekend and we've been missing a lot of sleep. We've accumulated a few features that we'd love to see added to the game at some point. Thought we'd pass them on in case you like any of the ideas.

1) Quick Save hotkey. - Would like to be able to map the quicksave feature to a button/keybinding.

2) Jumpgates and Station Docking areas need to be larger. Despite looking small in stations, all to often we get stuck underneath the docking bay. I think I've only once ever gone through the blue of a jump gate and most of the time, I go through the rings. These things should be massive compared to our little ships. Right now it just feels like we're a planet going through a pond.

3) Button that you can set a waypoint for quick access. We often mission together from the same station. It would be really nice to have the ability to hotkey a jump coordinate. The idea being that you would go to the nav computer and set one of your saved waypoints to the hotkey. This would allow you to hit the key and jump back to the station verse the 4 button method now.

4) If formed, when formation leader jumps it should jump formed clan members with leader to the destination. Group travel needs some loving.

5) Linking your coords from the Nav Computer should be a clickable link so that clan members can set their navcomp by clicking the coordinate information.

6) Keybind for Nearest Enemy/ cycle enemies.

7) Construction of JumpGates. - It would be a pretty cool feature to be able to construct your own Jump Gates using the Build Constructor. I understand this might not be desired by all, so it could be a server setting or something to turn it off, but we'd love this on our private server.

8) Crew Member 'auto match' . We'd love a feature for crew members to auto pay if rates increase. Maybe this changes later on, but in our early use of Crew members, it seems we have to check their rate every time we dock at the station. It's a bit painful.

9) For the Host/Join IP address, it would be nice if the last used IP address auto populated with the last used IP address. For those of us who connect to private servers.

Like I said, You've done an outstanding job and these are not criticism, but rather ideas we had to make the game even better.

Thanks for reading.

For gates, make your pitch 0 and your heading 0 or 180. Jumping will then point you directly at the gate access.

 Let me know if you convince Vice to include that one ... difficult as it would be. I have big plans for it.

:o If you only plan to "match" the quoted rate, you'll be doing a lot of re-hiring of crewmen. I average about 4 times the going rate if I want to keep my crew from jumping ship. Then, again, it only takes a few hours before a crewmember reaches 100% ... at which point, there is no need for further pay increases.

Like Stormfury, love this game and losing tons of sleep. Going to add to the list here. Would love to see a few additions/enhancements to make it over all better.
Thanks Vice for so much awesomeness in such a small little package.

1) Alt-F9 isn't a hotkey (or rather, it isn't an assignable hotkey.) Would really love to be able to assign this to my joystick, but an Alt key makes it unassignable.

4) Regarding the above point, add waypointing/Autopilot as a group. It would also be nice if you are trying to attach as a gunner for the pair of you (clan mates) to be able to jump as a pair into your mission.

[Will try PING to see if this is the desired function or clarify - Thanks!]
5) Similar to above. It would be nice to have a "jump to clan mate" option to be able to maybe see a list of clan mates and then either set them as a way point or jump directly to them. We might not be missioning or mining near each other and if a clan mate calls for help, it would be nice to be able to jump directly to their aid. For that matter an emergency distress button that is linkable would be cool. Anyone could jump into a MP server and hit distress (out of fuel?) and anyone in system could fly out to help.

10) The ability to find clan mates quickly, via quadrant map and once in system have an icon indicating their in system location. This is very important when trying to make long trips to no-whereville. We got separated trying out some long distance void jumping and had to reload because we ran out of fuel and could not easily hook back up.

11) Waypoint jumping. Not sure if this is feasible but it would be nice to be able to set a waypoint and then make a max distance jump in the direction of the selected waypoint. Yes I know I can only go X sectors depending on my jump drive, but if I know I want to visit this other spot and it is 12 away, it would be nice if I can hit jump and it knows to go X towards my chosen waypoint each jump.

12) The ability to edit or rename a player station for the owner

13) Clan members (in theory) should have a license for a station a fellow clan member puts out.

14) Crafting is such a neat idea but seems like an after thought as not much in the way of high end items can be created using the system. It would be nice to be able to create any item in game if you have the necessary underlying components. If ease of attaining items is the reason it was not enabled, then maybe have a pre-requisite of having the proper recipe for creation scattered about in systems (but not being randomly seeded) Money is certainly not a reason for the very low random seed of some items, but it would be nice that if you wanted to gather all the components you could instead make it from the "recipe."

14B) The ability to craft upgrades for existing items would be cool. Granted it could potentially lead to unbalancing the game. Maybe having this as an On/Off option for a server would be nice.

15) Better feedback on agility of a frame. We know the base agility, but it would be nice if after you add wings you can see what agility you gain. Would make comparing civ frames and mil frames easier. Right now you need to take one out and "feel" for the frame's agility.

16) Retain pilots when you swap frames. Maybe I am experimenting or swapping to a mil frame for a mission, it would be nice to have a check box that says retain even if not active. So I can swap back to my civvie frame after my mil mission and have my crew.

17) I haven't played enough with storage and so i might be doing it wrong, but it would be nice if when I swap frames I can choose to store a frame completely kitted. If this is already there, do I need to set this up in a certain way? It "seems" that when I store a frame, all the equipment on it goes to a new frame. It would be nice to have a miner frame, a recovery frame, a mil frame all properly kitted and stored so if I wanted to trade it out I would be able to do so quickly.

18) For new players, a better intro to certain concepts and certain short cuts and keys would help out alot. The present tutorial plays like a run on sentence that I had to keep replaying multiple times to verify I understood all the steps. RMB jumping is so critical it should be noted in the tutorial. A better combat tutorial would be nice and helpful. Right now combat is incredibly brutal the first few times. Even with an upgraded frame it can still take you by surprise. I know alot the long time players know some great tips that could be integrated into a nice combat tutorial. F4 trade screen on AI to hire wingmen didn't seem to be covered anywhere either.

19) More info on AI leanings. It would be nice to be able to understand the attitude of the AI you are trying to trade with or hire. We have tried multiple times to hire some AI (as many as 10 times on one) and not succeeded at hiring any.

20) Remote inventory management- I would like to see what I have scattered around the universe.

Again thanks for the awesome game Vice. And to all of you who help out on the forums, this seems to be a great community.

 It's called Autopilot. Find it. Use it.

 A set of charts exists ... not sure if they've been published yet.
