v1128 and Customizing Kit dilemma

Post by Arkhangel-XXI »

Now that Evochron Mercenary (EM) is upgraded to v1.128, I have faced a slight dilemma. When looking at the Windows "Uninstall Program" list there displays two (not one) installations of EM. Meaning that even if you install the new version on top of the original one, windows will consider that there are two versions of the game installed. I believe we have a BUG here! However, if you try to uninstall either of those, the whole game will eventually be uninstalled. Therefore I recommend to first uninstall the old version than install the new one to avoid such conflict.

Second point is about the customization kit. Once you used the upgraded version for EM (or E. Legends as well), the original folder structure which contains the "original" customization kit will disappear since all the game data seem to be included in the "EvochronData.evo" file, which is 219MB.

Question: How are we now supposed to customize our HUD or environment graphics without accessing the original Customizing Kit folder in v1128???

 If you're having problems with your mods, try the Mod Enabler:

I've never had a problem with an upgrade deleting mod folders but, if that's the problem you're having, all you need to do (when using the Mod Enabler) is drag the "MODS" folder out of the main game folder prior to upgrading the game. Just make certain you've uninstalled all your mods prior to moving the "MODS" folder ... you can then easily re-install them after upgrading.

Thank you people for your swift replies!

Unfortunately you are not directly answering my question. I'll explain the situation in more detail:

IF you install E. Mercenary v1128 ON TOP (as patch) of the original version, you do in fact get to keep the original existing folders. You are right by saying that upgrading the game do not delete the original folders. What I meant was the following:

IF you uninstall the game, and do a fresh installation using v1128 ONLY (not original installation media), there will be not even a single folder visible in the installation folder. You may check by yourself if you test this method. This can only mean that the game's data is locked inside a file (e.g. Evochron Data.evo). In such case, even if we move individually the Customizing Kit folder in the installation folder, the game will not read its content. It will be ignored! It will only read the new data file from the upgrade. This is a fact because it has been tested with E. Legends, and the same will happen with E. Mercenary for sure.

In the case of Evochron Legends v1288 it seems to face the same problem. There are no existing folders in the upgraded version. All the game's data is in the application file itself as it is 145MB. In other words, in either E. Legends, or E. Mercenary, when you install only the upgraded version, there will be no existing folders, only files, and the games' data will not be directly accessible!

The only way to maintain the original folder is to keep the original installation BELLOW the upgraded versions. I just want to know if there is a method to customize both games by using directly the upgraded version (not by patching the originals).

I hope I was clear enough. Please tell me that this make sense :D.

As Eclipse points out, the default installer for the game does not include mod folders. Mod folders are exclusively included with the modification kit. Moving this to the customizing forum.
