Questions about the Mantis Drive

I've been having a blast with this pile of awesomeness for the last few days. After starting to amass massive amounts of money, me and my friend decided to travel from Alpha Centauri to Sol. Hours of space sim sweetness (not really).

Anyway I've read that you should be able to get a Mantis Drive and some other cool equipment from Sol and was planning to get atleast the Mantis Drive. Don't particularly want to leave Sol without it. Even if I get to Sirius twice as fast as to AC.

But after atleast a hundred times docking to stations in Sol and reloading the game etc. fun exploits I have yet to see a Mantis Drive. So are they somehow tied to the player skill rating or rank? Or are they just really really rare?

You can find the Mantis Drive in every technologically advanced system. Pearl maybe... or the northern systems like Sierra. Sometimes the warzones... It is a rare item, but you can find it in accessible places.

Tip: in multiplayer technology level is generally higher. Try to take a look in MP

They cost a lot for a newbie, They are not hard to find. Try main docking Cities on one of the planets in Sol. Also I think you have better luck in Pearl....

Apparently they are only rare where you are and you don't have to go all the way to Sol to find one either.
Try hidden Pearl or lost Rucker.

Actually I was playing MP. Though only hosting a private server for me and my friend. Would I have even better luck at finding one in public MP?

I might just be failing in my newbieness but I couldn't find any cities on the planets in Sol. They didn't show up in navmap nor did I see those red/green indicators that guide you to the city.

I guess I'll fly around Sol a while and try somewhere else if nothing shows up.

Look for green plus sign on planets in your Nav map. I thought Mars had a city...at least in Legends.

I have not been to Sol yet in Mercenary.....but I thought there was one planet with a city on it in Legends but I could be having a Yoda Moment....LOL....

Playing MP on Remula One will give you an opportunity to meet more players and exchange more info.
If you're lucky, you might even get to chat with the server operator!

Mars has a city that shows up on nav map for sure. I got my mantis from Sol so they should show up sometimes, though I was in public MP.

After the not so excruciatingly long trip from Sol to Sirius, I made my way to Hidden Pearl and finally got my hands on a Mantis Drive. Thanks everyone for the tips.

1st let me say that this is an awesome game ! absolutely massive in size,and fun to boot. now as to the Mantis drive i got mine today in Hidden Pearl,so you might want to check there if you're close buy ! lol guess i should read all the posts before replying !

Hello Anor, Welcome to the forum and the Sim. Also on your post about item locations it is a good idea to put in a "WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILER FOLLOWS" so that pilots can skip reading things that could spoil their hunt for them themselves

Mantis drive lets you jump up to 10 sectors, the best of the regular drives only jumps 5. Its pretty much a must-have for pilots.
