In another thread Vice mentioned the handling of your ship is affected by the cargo it is carrying. I was wondering if I could get some more details about how that works. Specifically, does it matter how much and what type of cargo you are carrying or does it just depend whether the cargo bay has something in it?
For example:
Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to 25 units of platinum in one cargo bay?
Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to carrying 1 unit of water?
Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to carrying 5 units of water in 5 cargo bays (for a total of 25 units)?
If carrying equipment/missiles in cargo does the type matter? eg a load of 5 excal packs vs 5 exodus missiles in cargo bays?
I spend most of my time in a military frame so I would like to confirm whether anything relevant to them has an impact. Mostly I would like to confirm that:
The number of countermeasures you are carrying does not have any effect.
The amount of fuel you have remaining has no effect.
The number of fuel tanks you have installed has no effect.
The number and type of missiles in your hardpoints has no effect.
I would also like to know if anything else (such as capacity allocation) has an effect.
Finally, do these things just affect linear acceleration or is there also an impact on turning speed?

Bump, no rush but I'm still interested in those details when you have time. I'm sure others will be interested in the answers as well.
My guess is that the type of cargo does not matter, 25 units in 1 cargo bay has 25 times the effect of 1 unit in 1 cargo bay, equipment etc in a cargo bay counts as a full cargo bay and nothing else has any effect. But it would be nice to have that theory confirmed or corrected and the actual magnitude of the effect is also of interest to me.

Just having a guess; I would think that a cargo bay is a cargo bay, regardless of what you have in it. Incidently, I've never noticed any difference in flying ability as regards empty cargo bays Vs full ones, might just be me not noticing a difference!
And mad cat-

Thanks for the reply though. I can dig up the relevant quote if you want but Vice made it perfectly clear that carrying cargo affects your acceleration. He just didn't provide any details of how it works.Originally posted by Aures

As you point out any effect seems to be tiny so it is too hard for me to run experiments myself.

Generally no, the units are standardized for weight. Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to 25 units of platinum in one cargo bay?
Yes.Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to carrying 1 unit of water?
No, the weight would be the same. Will carrying 25 units of water in one cargo bay have a different impact to carrying 5 units of water in 5 cargo bays (for a total of 25 units)?
Those items generally have the same weight factor. If carrying equipment/missiles in cargo does the type matter? eg a load of 5 excal packs vs 5 exodus missiles in cargo bays?
Correct.I spend most of my time in a military frame so I would like to confirm whether anything relevant to them has an impact. Mostly I would like to confirm that:

Correct. The amount of fuel you have remaining has no effect.
Correct. The number of fuel tanks you have installed has no effect.
Correct. The number and type of missiles in your hardpoints has no effect.
Only in relation to the selection of the frame you choose and its mass.I would also like to know if anything else (such as capacity allocation) has an effect.
Both. Finally, do these things just affect linear acceleration or is there also an impact on turning speed?

Excellent, thanks Vice. Pretty much as I thought it would be.
I'm a bit of a speed freak and it is good to remove that niggling feeling I might not be getting the most out of my evoch-e. Good to know I'm in the fastest thing in the universe except for an evoch-e with an afterburner drive (which I might have if you could turn it on and off).
Interesting that if you move missiles from hardpoints into cargo they suddenly affect your acceleration. But it is a game, it is plenty cool that stuff in cargo bays has an effect and is more than most people would expect.
