Post by Aesir Rising »

This topic is to track bugs/issues relating to the game or forum.

If anyone wants to add their bugs/issues, feel free to do so. I'll add/modify/remove stuff from the topic, as needed.

Some of these issues previously appeared. I'm collating them here to suit my own purposes.

Ferret description text indicates it can carry four missiles. Looking for clarification on that.

Forum bugs:
  • /quote and /code blocks strip newlines, requiring a tedius reformat of the block text.
  • Changing color tags leaves the color selector widget set to the new color after each use. If you wish to recolor an additional text item in the same post, you must first change the color in the selector widget, then select the text, then change the color back to what you wanted.

:o What is Olympus Theta Energy? Obviously that's the reason for the over-run. If Vice put that in the "text" file, he must've been having a Yoda moment. I guess it's catchy ... so, I'd probably blame BH for that one.

I think that text breaks down like this:
Location \\ Faction \\ News item.

So Olympus Theta is the place, Energy is the faction, and the remainder is the news item.

There's got to be a text-wrap function in this game someplace (for example, to keep your chat box from taking over the width of the screen). Perhaps the solution is to run the news items through the text wrapper.

Chat is limited by the number of characters you're allowed to type. I'd guess Vice will just shorten that one message ... formatting it to fit inside the News Console window. (I'd still call it a Yoda moment.)

 I'll be looking at the text.dat file and making the necessary changes (line 635, for one) ... but only for the mod I'm working on. I have no doubt Vice will be doing the same for the default game.

The shaking and rotation could also be from the turbulant weather since you say is at this particular location.........;)

One of your straff controls or keys might be stuck. Do you hear the sound of your straffing thrusters and is your fuel consumption going down slowly? and what are you using for controllers?

This has happened before, without the rain weather and at a different location. But I screwed up the video capture of that event. I'm not sure if it is specific to just planet docks, but it has only happened on planets so far.

One indicator of a stuck strafe control - or any other input - would be to see the movement when not docked. This isn't what I'm seeing. Another indicator of a stuck control input is to see activity in the controller control panel. This also isn't the case. I suppose it is possible that the control input is 'stuck' only in certain parts of the game (e.g., when docked on a planet or mining on a planet), but that points to a game issue, not a controller issue.

Oh, and I forgot to add: That 3rd person view shake (not the slower panning rotation) has happened when not docked - when mining on a planet. The shake never shows up in cockpit view, just in one of the 3rd person views. I would imagine that the cause and solution for that would apply to at least the shaking part of what you see in that video. I'll capture video of that next time as well.

And forgot to add again: I've a save game when docked and having had leveled off. When I load that save, the ship starts off about 180 degrees upside down, then slowly rotates to an upright position. The save is from after being in the upright position. I can't be the only one that has seen that issue - it happens fairly frequently. I'll get a vid of that when it happens again. It may not be related to the issue in the video above though.

Planet surface texture anomaly. Purple block looks wrong
Oddly, that texture is based on a real composite satellite image of terrain, then fed into the texture generator of the game engine (without color alteration for that layer). Must be some real world purple region, lol. In terms of sci-fi, could certainly be a unique plant/fungus growing (or being grown) in that area of the planet.
Text Over-runs UI panel border
Checking into this. Will likely need to abbreviate or crop the string.
Ship rotates and shakes while docked (30-second, 4mb MP4 video):
This will happen in third person view. Won't occur in first person view. Can probably be tuned to remove.

The purple thing from real-world imagery actually explains it nicely.

My google earth photos of my area are a patchwork quilt of several sources of aerial and satellite images, from different times of year. So that explains that. I wasn't sure if that texture was generated procedurally however, and if that was an artifact of the procedure.

The ship rotation occurs in cockpit view. The shake however is 3rd person only and sometimes happens during mining runs on a planet.

The video was shot in 3rd person partly to demonstrate the strafe thrusters firing and to see both the shake and the rotation occuring in one shot. If you need cockpit video of the rotation, I think I'm still parked there in my current save game.
techdata.dat Typos...
This was already fixed a few days ago after it was first reported (aside from the 'MPS' which will remain capitalized).
I don't have the post in my forum subscriptions, but I'm pretty sure I only reported two line items from techdata, not the more complete list here. I'll look for the original post. Apologies in advance for any duplication of reports.
Edited: If you meant this post, it was for two corrections to text.dat. If there was another post from someone else, apologies for the duplication.

edit again: Nevermind, I did post that list before. Again, I'm trying to consolidate. Apologies for duplication.

The rotation is from the strong winds and will only occur on planets that have the wind, the shaking is being worked on.

The text description for the frame "Ferret" says:

"It carries a basic internal missile rail of four hard points."

It appears to be limited to two missiles, which in turn would indicate two "hard points", at least as I understand the term. Is this limit of two only when starting out a combat pilot?
