I am really enjoying the game and i have a couple of questions.

1. I've been looking around for a stealth generator and an anti missile system.Are these items
only available at hidden planets/stations?

2. At the moment i'm at Alpha Centauri ,if i build a research station in the system would that increase
the chances of the stealth generator and anti missile system being available to buy?

Not understanding the complete mechanics verbatum as designed I can only give you my findings in general.

Adding economic factories to sectors improves the selection of technology available to buy. But for certain items it requires a sufficiently higher tech area to raise the occurence of certain items being available. AC is in a high tech area so by past experiences I would expect the AMS to appear if you raise the economy by infrastructure.

Stealth generators however seem to be a more unique item to be found, as despite raising economics by infrastructure in local stations it still doesn't appear for sale. So I can only assume that SG's have been assigned to fixed locations by design.

Nothing are fix . O brought 1 SG in pearl once with all station build next to it, sold it by mistake and have not seen another 1 in pearl for 2 days.

Anti middle are easier to find. Jump pm MP and I am sure someone can give you 1 or show you where to go to get it

Anywhere you can get a cloak you can easily get it, just keep reloading till it shows up. The stock is randomly generated on load, some may regard it as an exploit but I can't stand treating a RNG role as meaning I should go away and wait for another RNG role. I have no qualms about forcing a new one if I don't like the result. I just reloaded twice and I got one.

I suggest hanging around in the higher-tech areas with plenty of money. I found a lot of the new rare items in the new systems (Atlas, Iota, etc.) and in Sol, which are generally good systems to find expensive stuff. Sol, in particular, has lots of places to check on each load, but it will take you a while to get there. (But I still recommend visiting!)

Still no stealth generator, actually, but I probably need a lot more money, anyway. AMS was around 7.5 million if I recall, and I have... well, nowhere near that... yet. Time to mine....

lol, to think I just bought a stealth gen at top dollar from where you would usually want to sell your high tech goods. The premium I paid over where I normally buy high tech stuff was over 7.5 million but that is as nothing. Heck, I've sold equipment for more than a 7.5 million loss just to free up space in a hanger. On the trip to go get the stealth gen I made about 75 million on the way there.

Mining is fine if it floats your boat (oddly enough, I find staring at rocks tedious), but as a serious method of making money it is a fools errand. Took me less than 10 minutes to make 75 million, hate to think how much time that would have taken to earn by mining.

The Anti-Missile System can be found in some places in the Pearl system, try the Arvoch war zone and the station next to Arvoch Prime.

That would make more sense, I scoured all over the Sol system, must have reloaded a zillion times in Pearl, and nothing.

The Romulan cannot control the RNG Gods. Go to the appropriate alter and perform the ritual of self destruction until the Almighty RNG Gods answer your prayers by delivering a stealth generator unto you. The Romulan has no power to intervene if your faith is strong. At least in SP he doesn't, in MP I hear he is known for blasting innocents out of the sky while they conduct their business like the devil's consort that he is.

The Romulan is a heretic and shall be smited, preferably by a combination of fulcrum torpedo and a stealth generator obtained by one of the faithful after he made his wicked pronouncement.

Of course I got my generator before he attempted to steal them all so other faithful will have to perform this holy duty. BTW on a completely different topic I'm off to hide by heading to another galaxy and flying into the unknown at best speed. But still,

Sorry DaveK, didn't mean to be smug:). I was just doing what I posted about in the easy money thread, nothing fancy. I agree just waving my disdain for cash in people's faces without telling them how to get it themselves would have been something, smug is a polite way to put it. But I hoped it knocked some sense into anyone who would try to earn their first 100 million from mining because they think the dedicated mining beams means mning is the most profitable thing they can do or something. Traction, thats what your neck needs. I'm probably off to bed soon, if you play until I wake up you could break 1 billion. I haven't done that in Mercenary yet.

Btw I don't mean to pick on mining, the activity I posted about in that thread is far more profitable than anything else I have done in the game. It kind of completely removes the financial dimension from everything else in the game, the main reason people might not want to read about it.

Mining does not really take that long... at least, not with the prices in Sol, and when you have other things to do anyway. I had practically nothing when I got there and I had a new ship with better equipment after maybe two hours, plus about 2.5 million in my pocket. It is an excellent way to make money when you really should not be at the keyboard.

I know some better ways, but the truth is that it feels like cheating to get the money the really fast ways, so I do it the regular way. It is a game design thing, so I will spare you the details, but it is more fun to pester the Vonari than to pick up the valuable stuff right from the start, anyway.

I have nothing against mining and I would use it if I had something against the easy way. And if your doing something else it can be a great way to play in the background. I will probably try mining pods and a dedicated mining beam at some point for kicks, but the change it will make to my bank account is academic.

I like to think I frighten the bejeesus out of the vonarii, but the odd million or two I get from explodifying them is also totally incidental.

You might want to consider getting a license at the station that sells high tech stuff the cheapest. Just because you are actually working for a living doesn't mean you have to pay more money for kit than required. If you are making 20,000 a minute with mining rather than millions a minute the easy way the saving can add up to a lot of minutes.

I suppose someone could sell you one, then quit without saving. Then, you save with the component, and then the seller reloads and has the component.

Anyone know of a reason this wouldn't work?

If you sell to another player, the game auto-saves. Same with refueling another player and any known situation where what you suggest could result in what you suggest. If what you suggest works, it's a bug and should be reported.

Yes, other wise this could be used as an exploit to become rich quick without ever really playing. You just keep transfering credits to one another whith different profiles while saving and than use the saved profile again to transfer the credits........

In pearl you gotta be at the right station to see em, they are also available in other systems besides the mentioned sol,

HAve purchased them in lost rucker, and in CERULEAN, can't recall station name off hand, but it wasnt the quest station.
