That's right, you heard me. I have just been promoted to Captain in the Navy. Respect my authoritah! Anyone of lesser rank must follow my orders under pain of court martial!*
*There is no such thing as a court martial in Evochron and players are under no obligation whatsoever to follow my orders. In fact, I would strongly advise ignoring any orders you get from me or you will probably find yourself crashing into the nearest star. My advise is generally worth paying attention to but anyone stupid enough to follow my orders will get exactly what they deserve.
On a more serious note I will probably not be that active on the forums for the foreseeable future. I am heavily into a closed beta test (including a NDA) for another game atm and that is where I will be directing my particular variety of word salad until further notice.

I know it's off-topic, but have you seen this rant on the Old Republic:Originally posted by Aesir Rising
Star Wars: The Old Republic ?
Source: http://ealouse.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/hello-world/And Bioware? Don’t make me laugh. They’ve spent more money making the Old Republic than James Cameron spent on Avatar. Shit you not. More than $ 300 million! Can you believe that? And you know what they’re most proud of? This is the kicker. They are most proud of the sound. No seriously. Something like a 20Gig installation, and most of it is voiceover work. That’s the best they have. The rest of the game is a joke. EA knows it and so does George Lucas, they’re panicking, and so most of Mythic has already been cannibalized to work in Austin on it because they can’t keep pushing back launch. Old Republic will be one of the greatest failures in the history of MMOs from EA. Probably at the level of the Sims Online.
I believe that at least $ 100 million were spent.
Imagine what Evochron could be with a tenth of this budget.
I've a lot of respect for those indie devs, like Vice, that with tiny budgets can pull rabbits out of hat.

That makes me sad to read... I've purposely not followed SW:TOR development closely, though I do have a forum account there. I just want to try it out. My first MMO was SW Galaxies. Star Wars is really only one of three entertainment franchises that could ever have changed my stance on subscription gaming. (D&D and LotR are the others, and they didn't last for me as MMOs either).
The fact that Galaxies ultimately failed to echo a Star Wars feel was a big disappointment for me. I loved what BioWare had with both Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars:KotoR, though so I hold out hopes on what they can do with SW:TOR. But at the same time I was less impressed with Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. And thought they fumbled what could have been very good - Jade Empire.
Anyway, Vice's efforts are impressive, even factoring in the continuing evolution of his games from their start 15 - 20 years ago.
Increased budget opens possibilities, but in the end, even a BioWare-sized budget can miss the mark with me as a player. If Vice had a monster budget, would he apply those resources to putting things into the game that I want to see? Improve the things I'd like to see improved?
Understanding what your end-goal is supposed to be, and communicating that out in some manner (indirectly through demos, directly through forum posts, etc.) is pretty important. I'm still trying to divine through osmosis what it is he's thinking about for his games next year and the next 5 years. Will they come close to the mark for what I'd consider the ultimate space game?

I've enjoyed both Dragon and ME, but I really can understand your and some other players pointing against their weakness, specially the ME series.Originally posted by Aesir Rising

Those related with the cinematic effects, visuals, sound, yes I believe, the things could/would be improved. But I can live without these. I've always favored gameplay to eye candy, since the Sinclair machines.Originally posted by Aesir Rising

IMHO, from what I've seen so far, yes there's that chance, that somewhere in the future, it'll meet my full expectations about a space simulator game.Originally posted by Aesir Rising

But it's also true that since Elite and Frontier: First Encounters, I've never thought much about the subject. Maybe my mark, for what I consider the ultimate space game will rise again, as I'm playing Evochron.
However, the communication that Vice keeps within this forum, is quite good, and give me some confidence about the future development of the series.

Lol, the NDA isn't that strict. But it hasn't been officially announced yet so to be on the safe side I will wait until it is.
Until then, guess away (none of the current guesses are right). I will transfer 10 million credits to the first correct guess once the announcement has been made.

Good idea Von Paulus, everyone seems to be going for big name games. Think more along the lines of Evochron (Indy game with a space theme).
While I'm at it, i'll up the prize to 100 million.

Infinity? No I don't believe.
Starpoint Gemini?
Naumachia: Space Warfare?
Heresy War? I bet it's this one.
Edit:
Don't tell me... the first one in my list?

Miner Wars or something? Not minecraft that all the press has taken under its wing, but that 6DOF Descent-like looking game.
It looks like a game about mining and wars. I saw the site within the past month.
Edit: This game...

That's in Alpha phase, and there's no NDA.
You just buy it to play in alpha and in the subsequent phases.
I've bought it, but Evochron doesn't give me much time to try.

Edit: A lot of people is playing and being addicted to minecraft.
I've resisted.

Considering the quote in the thread title, I'm guessing it's Southpark Universe 2 - Kenny's Revenge.

lol, good try but I was serious when I said a space themed game that is pretty indy. A dev has just said some magic words on the public board and that means I can say what I am working on (but no details of what is happening obviously). I would tell you now but I wouldn't want to deprive someone of 100 million credits. I will let you know when someone gets the right answer. I would give you a hint about the genre, but people's replies might uncover some hidden gems that others might not know about.

You gentlemen are totally in the dark aren't you?
There's only one reason why someone would quit the forums to beta test another game.
And that reason is......

Always bet on Duke.... ALWAYS!
(And yes, it is space themed...aliens from outer space at least
