ai missile spam is not funny
ok...so going up against 4 or 5 enemy fighters and getting blown up in the process is realistic and difficiult - which i like - to a point.
come on!
this is suppose to be a game...
getting 3 or 4 locked missile on to your ship is almost impossible to survive.
then you have enemy fire hitting your shields but causing your ship to shake and you to lose your target.
does enemy ai suffer the same control shake when you hit their shields?
then there are missions that requires you to defeat 8 enemy ships over 4 waypoint...
when you warp to the first waypoint, 4 enemy ships are already present...
before you dispatch all of them, the other 4 arrive.
wtf!!!
difficulty is good in games - just so long as its not ridiculous.

It is all about your piloting. I am fighting with too many enemies sometime (in enemy sectors), they couldn't even scratch the paint of my ship.
PVP is another part of the story...

Ach "K", in a couple of months you'll laugh at your post. Sure, in the beginning it all looks like mission impossible, we've all been there, and got through it.
Get yourself a better ship/weapons/equipment, and most of all, experience. Four missiles locked on you, easy, either shoot them down - switch off IDS, give yourself a burst of reverse thrust [key "/" and afterburner, turn to face the missiles, and either shoot 'em down, or use your CMs, if they get too close - red alert missile warning.
Don't center your cursor on the WP, set it at the side of it. That way you can coast in to the hostiles. They'll turn to attack you, once you come within their range. That's when you can use your reverse thrust to keep yourself just outside of their missile range, they'll still launch them. Once they've used up their missiles you can then take a couple out with your own missiles and/or gunfire.
When you're going in for an attack switch your IDS off - that makes the AI think that you're heading in one direction, whilst you are heading, and firing in another. They'll fire where they think you're going, and so, miss.
That's a very simple way of handling enemy AIs - good luck, and enjoy.

"Excellent Advice from some of the Great pilots kuertee"...I would like to add that during these combat missions/contracts you are allowed to fly back to the station and rearm yourself with more missiles and cm's/fuel...when having multiple way points this comes in handy....Also I found out that any extra hostiles that show up counts toward your mission/contract quota...so keep your eye on the text because once you fulfill your enemy kill at way point one you will get the new nav marker for way point 2...Hang in there kuertee! you will get better

The difficulty of combat makes it much more rewarding when you do manage to splash a bandit!
Another help: in SP hire other AI to join your fleet. In MP do combat missions with other players. Don't worry, with a bit of practice trying out the techniques mentioned above you'll soon be able to take down 8+ hostiles without so much as a scratch.

Actually it's not ridiculous. Matter of fact, once you have a decent ship, weapons, shields etc. it's really easy. I would suggest you tried too much too soon.
My advice is too join MP asap. This is not the kind of game where you will be pounced on by a host of players. Most all will help and offer hints, tips & suggestions. Sometimes even the server will chat w/you!

Welcome to a great sim and forum. I'm a Rookie myself and learned tons off stuff from the oldies (Sorry guy's;))
in this forum. I also fly in MP and they all help out with combat tips and directions for goodies out there.

Yes I use to fear them also. That is till now I had learn how to deal with them and now I can take on like 8 at a time.
Time for me to find a way to deal with the Captital ship and their shields.
Really it get easy as you get use to the game and your ship.

Try 70 over 7 way points.......and once you get the hang of it even this is easy to do.......It just takes a little bit longer....and it sure is funny........

It would be very helpful to all the new players to Evochron Mercenary if someone could post a tutorial video for combat tactics. We have tutorial videos for everything else I think.
The veterans could at least show how combat it done the right way. Loading saved games 27+ times after dying constantly is not the best tool for new players learning combat sometimes.

One way of learning is to join MP and watch a fight, or join an experienced pilot as a gunner and see how he/she moves. I learned a lot fighting together with others in MP. I probably learned them more of course (ROFL), sorry guy's couldn't help myself. You are excellent instructors;). It's a lot more fun as well.
