Few starting questions about Merc

Post by warzer »

I am new here, hello All.

I have lots of questions not all i can remember now but here they go.

How do you use hired employees? I got a navigator to help me from dieing while jumping and i still do. I was hoping he will be able to jump me as close to a station or planet as possible or adjust my nav beacon. so far the navigator seems to just suck my money.

Beam lasers. do they actually do any damage? I got a Y25 beam and tested on an asteroid and well no matter how long i shot it, it wouldn't blow up.

particle weps. it seems if i want more damage i have to drastically reduce range. are there higher class weps that have the range greater then 750 and actually do descent damage?

when i start the game and say mine the price of plat stays the same until i undock. say i sold 75 units. i undock and go get more plat. when i redock at the same station the value is down between 25-50% is this normal? are there other simulated npc miners that would be lowering the regional price?

for basic combat are missiles worth it? should i get rid of the missile slot for say more equipment or cargo space? if thats even possible?

on the starting mining/trade ship. what would be some recommended upgrades? when should i get the next class of hull and what should i look at? I upgraded my wing and engines to the top of the base model name. the only reason i have for speed currently is to speed up docking and travel time. is there another method to increase docking and travel times?

Docking, is there an auto dock?

can you control time?

if i buy a commodity or weapon is there an easy way to tell where i should sell it?

Is there a way to stack missiles? when i got some containers are part of the img missions i could barley take anything 5 missiles fills up my expanded 5 slot ship.

Any way to stack inventory while in space? anytime i try it ejects it. How do i recover ejected items? any way to eject 1 item and not the hole cargo bay?

How do you target a station, asteroid, or other none ship targets?

Thanks i need a lot of help.

Hi Warzer, welcome to Evochron!

The effectiveness of hired employees depends on their skill level. The Nav officer will save you from dangerous jumps but only if he has a high % of skill.

Beam lasers only drain the shields of enemy ships. They impart no hull damage.

Particle weapons cause hull damage and yes they are more effective at close range because you'll get more hits on target. Still effective at longer range but it's more difficult to hit your target. I think the max range is 750.

The economies are dynamic, meaning that prices will vary over time within a system, although not drastically. You'll find that prices can be radically different in some of the outer systems.

Missiles are very important for combat, but also quite expensive. So initially if you want to make a lot of money quickly you can configure your ship to have more cargo bays and less missile hardpoints. Later you can change that configuration for combat or for trading missiles.

The upgrades to your ship really depend on what you want to do. For mining/trading, you need cargo bays but not much speed/agility. For combat you need more speed and agility, and stronger shields. As you go up through the frames, you'll have more assembly resources but less speed and agility. Military fighters are very different from civilian frames.

There is no auto dock, but you can make docking quicker by right-clicking the station icon in the Nav map and aligning your heading to 0 and pitch to 0 before you jump.

No you can't control time, unless you regard a faster-than-light jump a way of controlling time.

You can see commodity prices for a system when you dock at a station/city. It's not possible to see the prices of other systems without being docked in that system. With experience you get to know where things buy or sell well.

You can store missiles in your cargo bays as well as the missile hardpoints.

I think there was a way to consolidate items of the same type into cargo slots... something like ALT + mouse click but I'm not sure about that.

You can eject the items from only one cargo slot by left clicking on that cargo slot in the inventory console. It will eject everything in that cargo slot. Not sure if you can get it back again but it might be possible with your tractor beam.

You can't "target" non-ship items in your HUD in the same way as you target other ships, but you can set your Nav/Way point to stations/jump gates in the Nav console. In the Nav map zoom in by right-clicking a sector. Then right-click on the station/jump gate icon, and you will set your Nav/Way point directly on it. Then you can jump directly to it. If the distance is to large for your jump drive then activate autopilot.

You can find more detailed info in the READ ME file in your Evochron Mercenary folder, and also in the official website here http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmerce ... iverse.htm

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for all the info!

with employees at what skill level do they become effective in preventing jump death? the guy i picked only has 55 but has loyalty of 95% figured it would be easier for him to learn to be loyal maybe i was wrong.

Hi warzer, welcome, hope to see you out there some time...;)

You can consolidate cargo only for minerals. Equipment and Missiles you can only load one Item per cargo bay. But If you want to do missile trades you can load your cargo spaces with 5 missiles and your 8 hardpoints with 8 missiles so the maximum amount of missiles you would be able to trade is 13 at a time...;)
