I've been trying to deploy this in several asteroid fields, but it simply refuses to cooperate. Is it limited to a certain asteroid type (hollow asteroid)?

Just make sure the the center of the deploy indicator is in the -middle- of the asteroid you want to mine.

Thanks Vice. Managed to get it deployed, but it does seem very hit or miss, I guess I'll get the hang of it with practice.

You have 2 option menus in the upper right corner of yous cockpit, "Build and Deploy".
If you buy "Constructors" and equip your ship with these, you can build/deploy different items! :D

 Be advised that build constructors cost exra each time you use one ... while deploy constructors are free once you've paid for the constructor device.

I haven't tried it with platinum asteroids specifically, but I have noticed that I get gold and silver from regular asteroids while using the probe. Something you don't get with the mining beam.

There seams to be different minning beams in the game as well, have not discoverd the difference between them yet....maybe they have something to do with the mining probes....I have seen Mining beam, Diamond Mining beam, and at the moment I have a Platinum mining beam which still mines as the regular mining beams.....:P:P:P:P:P

Those are specialised mining beams, which 'should' only mine a certain materiel. I haven't found any yet, so I'm sticking with my mining probe, at least I can do other tasks while I'm waiting on it.

Well they do not. I tried the Platinum mining beam and it still picks up metl, diamonds and platinum and even oxygen and objects from hidden containers and even clean solar panels....maybe the Platinum mining beam is just made from platinum and is shinier then the regular one......LOL....:P:P:P:P:P

That's 'cos it is also your tractor beam, Maars. With roids it only mines Platinum.

Are you sure you are not using it on a pure platinum roid only?

Have you tried regular roids?....:o

Yeah, I got a platinum mining beam myself. It still syphons fuel, cleans solar arrays, drags containers aboard and can collect biomatter, oxygen and water from the respective sources, but if I mine a mineral source with it, I get only platinum.

Well Maarschalk, that'll teach you to buy the cheap chinese knockoffs from dubious mercs...

Nope, noticed that myself. I think that's probably one of the advantages over beam mining.
