Constructing trade stations

Is it just me or is anyone else unable to construct them? If i use the mouse to click the build button it prompts me to name the station then.... Nothing. I tried assigning a key to building trade stations but all i get from that is a keytone noise & then nothing. The only time anything happens is if i try to construct one in the same system as another trade station, then i get a message saying it cant be built there as it is in the same area as another trade station. I have built every other kind of station without any hiccups.... Any advice?

there needs to be at least one sector without a trade station between you and the nearest trade station. beyond that you need to be in a area of space empty enough for the station, lastly the station needs to be near the 'middle' of the sector ( between 25%-75% lines for both x and y )

You also need the cash to build the station.

Ok ill see if any of that helps, thanks. Even if it doesn't work like i said i can & have built everything else so not building trade stations wont bother me too much.
