I havnt really been into space simulators for a few years now. I started out back in the old days of the 20th century wing commander (anyone else remember privateer?..oops showing my age again. :/ ).

anyhow, ive seen tech change gaming, there for a while everyone was pushing graphics. Good textures, but absolutely lousy gameplay, silly markets, and laughable upgrades. Too many games that just...left you hanging, or empty at the end.

Then i ran into freelancer, i played it for a long time. It was quite fun esp with MP and was easy enough but reminded me a bit of an arcade game. Well a little anyhow.

Wishing for more (even with FL mods) i dove into the X series. ..thats when i was overwhelmed. So much to do, huge universe and you needed a god like computer to run the thing smoothly. It quickly became a pain. Just too much for me, i couldnt even get combat to work properly..felt like i was fighting everything (engine, my upgraded pc..etc..etc) I put it aside and well..it hasnt been installed in a while. Its a good sim but seems like a corp management training simulator (balancing income vs this n that..) it has so many things involved...i just i dunno...how to describe it.

Been surfing around trying to find another, found this one on impulse. Reading up a bit and seeing a few youtube vids i decided to purchase it (didnt notice there was a demo..hahah..doh!)

I did a no no, i judged a book by its cover. With the game size (under 300mb..its unheard of nowdays!) and the gfx, didnt use a polished 1024x1024 color, bump n specular, it prob wasnt that great. ..im glad this time i was very wrong.

a 3d nav map. ... a REAL 3d world where everything isnt on one plane. Oh my... :)

a REAL shipyard. I think this is the first sim ive played where you could move your components around and size things up. (on a sim like this, I know there are strategy and empire games from stardock that do it but never a sim like this one.) To me this is what customizing a ship is all about. I cant wait to get into heavier hulls with stronger components.

This is one heck of a sim. ive only had a few hours in it, figuring out the trade system, mining, running a few missions all in the starting area. While some games i can see an end of game in about 12 hours or less, this one is prob going to keep me very busy for quite a while.

My thanks to the Dev's, im really enjoying the sim. Good price, great playability, and ...ya know, if i want eye candy, im sure there will be a mod or two pop up to change things eventually.

Thanks folks, this sim is 100% :)

:o Did you mention which game? I didn't see it anywhere. But, if you're looking for future mods, your best bet is Mercenary. Same goes for long, long hours of game play ... especially on line at MMaggio's upcoming MP server.

I picked up...umm Evochron Legends. So far its a blast :) IM sure a mod or two will show up for it, either way its fun.

Lol i wish i was related to the true SuperDave. I got the nickname from my old Clan/group In EVE online, back when the pirate clan BoB was going nuts. :P Heh, the antics on that sim were worthy of the title. Long time ago for me heheh.

got a few more hours left on the day, gotta figure out this "sun" mining.

gonna be a rough one this week, figuring this sim out and then of course tuesdays "halo" day...(eg i took off work to have the WHOLE day to figure it out...) ..er..ack i just derailed my own thread! :D

Good hunting folks, ill see you out there....sometime. im still very green lol.

Welcome, even though I haven't started yet as waiting for merc version of Evochron expected this Friday (17th).

However, don't feel too embarressed about your age, I'm old enough to remember playing the orginal elite space sim on the rubber keyboard of a ZX Spectrum.

Then I'm probably the oldest one since my first computer was a ZX81 (Before ZX Spectrum).
It had like 1k memory and I tried to create a sim in this baby. The memory ran out way before
the cockpit graphics was done.:P:P:P

Hmmm. I learned to program BASIC in a teletype writer connected to a GE Mark I. But my first personal computer was really a ZX-Spectrum 16K.

 I played my first computer space game on USC's mainframe. Back when they used punch-card readers. (True story.)

lol my first real sim was on an Atari 800 home pc. It had that GTIA chip with 16 colors (I think, yea thats a lot back then) and many games modified the ASCII table to create things. That and my C64.

The good ole sprite days heh, funny how i miss that now and then.

It does look like i jumped the gun a bit though, mercenaries is just around the corner. Ah well the price of these games is very reasonable. :)

Does anyone remember the TI 99? I think that was the name. You just plugged it into your TV. That was my first computer! :D

Sure. The cartridge reader was on the right. 16K, wasn't it?

The next one was a Commodore 64! Imagine 64 colors! How could they manage it? Ain't modern technology wonderful?
Btw, there is more computer power in an Iphone than there was in the first rocket to the moon!

64 was for the amount of memory not the number of colors. ;)
It was there that I played Elite and for the first time knew what was the difference between a video game and a computer game.
The guys here, who went through all this computer evolution, must have had the same kind of exaltation feeling I had. The word seminal describes well the importance of Elite.

I advanced from ZX81 to VIC20 (Commodore) with 3k memory:P and then Amiga 500. That was revolutionary when it arrived. I flew my first flightsim on this one. Loved that machine.;)

 Pretty much. A student project, I think. My diving buddy got paid for babysitting the computer at night and I'd go "see how he was getting along" after my last night class. When he didn't have time to play (2-man game ... no AI back then), I'd spend time putting my ship into orbit around the sun to see how many revolutions it would do before gravity got the better of it.
