Linux Server.. sort of. lol

Post by Swashbunglar »

Just thought I'd share my little franken(space?) monster.
Maybe to inspire some lunix server development.

I've managed to get a private server running in Ubuntu 10.04/Wine 1.3.
Using a single 3.6 core and 2048MB memory.
The interface is slugish and cannot seem to click anything.
Wondering if adding cores and mem will help. (future test)
I cannot seem to get it to public. It will close with evochron error box.
I can however, run private over internet and connect to the server and it works fine.
Here's a pic and I hope this sends some sense of joy to linux server admins. lol
As you can see in the picture, an internet user has connected to the ubuntu server.

I would guess that' it's dns propagation. We just upgraded the server and with it a new IP.. The domain name with the new ip takes time to get to all the DNS servers. Some more than others.
Depending on your ISP's DNS it can actually take up to 2 weeks. Well most refresh at about 72 hours.
I don't even use my ISP's DNS. I use 204.117.214.10 and 129.250.35.250 for my DNS they are the fastest DNS servers for my location.
Verizon server 4.2.2.1 - 4.2.2.6 are pretty fast too.

There are tools like Namebench that can find faster DNS's and sometime with faster refresh. You can also take a look at http://www.dnsserverlist.org/ which will give you 3 DNS IPs tested to be the fastest from your current IP/location.

Or you can be patient and come back in a week.... lol

Have fun mosh pitting.

Now it's DNS free.. since everyone is having issues. This started as a post about linux and turned into a lesson on DNS. lol *facepalm*
If you still cannot see it, you have much bigger issues. If it's "too big" it's resolution. It's a high res screenshot so you can see details clearly. I'm running 1920x1080, so to me, it's about 2/3's of my screen.
