SYSTEM REPUTATION.....

Post by SHADOW STAR »

Me again. 2 part question this time. I thought I read on someones post that they had raised their system rep/status far enough that they starting making quite a bit of money just off of hostiles bribing them not to attack. Is that possible? Also, to increase your system rep., how many CONSECUTIVE missions do you have to complete for Energy/Navy/Miners ? Can you increase your rep. over time by completing 5 or 6 missions each session for said groups and then save for another game; or do they have to span a single gaming session until your rep. shows a value change?................Curious........:o

Ah well, you again...

The bribe thing seems to happen at random after you shoot some reds. You'll notice a trade attempt in the middle of combat (which is why it's such an unreliable way of earning cash: most of the time you're too busy shooting stuff and dodging missiles to even bother with answering). It's definitely not keyed to system reputation - might be keyed to your civilian rank, but that's just an educated guess.

Back when I was a wee little Blackthorne, you had to do consecutive missions until the system reputation changed - only the levels were saved. Somewhere down the development lane, the reputation itself was tracked, meaning you can improve your reputation in a system little by little these days and take breaks in between. (I actually dislike that a bit - not because I'm "hardcore" (whatever that's supposed to be), but because I like the mission variety offered by "fair" systems. These days, you have to pick contracts from both sides, or you'll end up pacifying the universe to a point where you can't get any combat missions anymore from "normal" systems.)

Actually, when you leave a system your reputation falls back to a medium level. IIRC, before the changes you had to get your global system reputation to change in one go, because once you reloaded the game your reputation % with local factions would fall back to medium levels.

It is possible to turn nearly all systems to a "good" rep, which severely limits the missions you have available (and one of the reasons I don't play Legends in SP mode much anymore).
Which raises an interesting question...is there a quick way to decrease a system reputation that has become "good"? Is there actually any way at all?

I think I didn't say that very well. What I meant to say was that if you leave a system before your reputation level increases any work you have done towards increasing your rep level is undone, and your faction reputation returns to median levels.

I made a lot of credits on bribes. About 2 billion. But to get high bribe offers you have to have a lot of credit and a lot of kills to your reputation..... when I started doing this I believe I had around 15 billion credits al ready.......;)

If I recall correctly, it was changed so that incremental changes to reputation are saved.
Then perhaps I misremember. I do know that incremental changes are NOT saved in Mercenary, and so I figured the same must be true of Legends.

I know that as soon as I left the Cygnus in Mercenary, all my hard earned reputation values in that system were gone, even when I returned immediately. Fortunately I had saved before I attempted this.

Moral of the story: Listen to Eclipse, I'm just an idiot. :P

From the Official Strategy Guide:

Long term loyalty to a faction can provide overall reputation benefits, while short term contract completing can result in losing progress you've made in building your reputation. If you leave before you achieve an overall reputation shift, then you've pretty much abandoned the reputation you were working toward and your reputation can fall a bit. Not always, but it can return to more average values because the faction's interest in you will quickly diminish if you stop working for them and they'll be on to hiring the next, possibly more loyal, long-term mercenary to work for them. If you want to use contracts as a way to shift your reputation, be consistent, work for them long enough to make it worth their time and investment to know they can count on you, otherwise, you'll just appear like a system hopper who only works a few jobs, then moves on, which won't help your reputation much. Loyalty and consistency is rewarded with the game's reputation system.
