What is a wormhole?

What exactly is a wormhole (game terms, I already know what it really is) and what different is it from a gate (again game terms)?

I'm not sure I understand your question. There is no difference in concept in the game. As I have mentioned before a Gate is just an artificialy created wormhole and has Machinery to create the wormhole around it. And the wormholes without a gate(the Mechanics around it) is a natural occurance but they are exactly the same and work the same. One difference I can think of is that Gates are both way travel and natural wormholes are one way travel.....hope that answers your question....

A wormhole is supposed to be formed with two black holes, right?
So wouldn't it be like travelling in to a black hole? You know, immense gravity, instant destruction, etc.

Not really sure in real life, at least no one I know has tried or returned to tell me what it is like.....LOL....In the game though I do not think that is how the wormholes form. Cause some are in Space without a black hole while others are in the middle of a black hole so that you have to use a special technique to jump through the worm hole in side the black hole to survive the jump through......

Currently, the wormhole is a theory of travelling immense distances and through time itself, but it is just a theory as we don't know of any existing wormhole. The theory of a wormhole is that it forms when two blackholes get close enough together. Although it is a wormhole, I'm pretty sure they are still blackholes, too.

When jumping through a gate or wormhole you normally come out of the jump some 2500 to 2800 units in front of it. So when jumping through one in a black hole you have to plot your jump coords so that you come out of the jump in the center of the wormhole in the blackhole.....with shields to max and keep augmenting power to shields till your clear and safe on the other side....Depending on your ships frame and outfit you can sustain heavy damage but you will survive the jump if you do it right....
