Stuck on military mission

I accepted a miliatary reiforcement mission. Now I have blown up the large battleship and a few fighters, but I haven't finished yet. However, I don't see a thing anywhere.

I warped around, couldn't find anything. Then I warped little farther, and it said contract objectives failed. But I would still like to know what to do if it happens again.

Never warp so far that you go out of the sector. Some contracts, like escort, require you to hang around until the capital ship jumps out. Others just require you spend a little more time hunting down the wayward bad guys.

You might have missed a red fighter. Stay in the same sector and hunt around. Near planets, and gates, are usually good hunting grounds for the odd red.

That happens sometimes also if another player travels through your sector when you are in middle of contract or your reputation level just changed, meaning you just killed enough enemies for reputation level change. You can also cancel the mission and select a new one if it happens again. Or you can try to hunt a rogue red one that escaped your onslaught.....that happens sometimes as well....LOL....
