Where to buy a mantis drive?

Post by chris0101 »

I have been reading around and have found that my style of shooting is probably best with the Maxim-R gun.

However, I would like to know, where can you get a fusion laser? They should be as accurate as any laser. I have tried places like Pearl without much success.

Update:
Managed to get fusion drive and Banshee at pearl hidden planet, but no luck getting Mantis drive.

I probably should put a spoiler tag up, but hey, it's vague enough...

I've got mine from one of the hidden planets. You might try Alpha Centauri or Deneb (but that's a bit of a crapshoot, really), or Sol/Lost Rucker if you know how to get there. I've also seen them in Vonarion, but going there for a bit of shopping is like jumping into a meatgrinder to get some sausage, really.

In case you want hard & fast spoilers, there's a nice and rather complete strategy guide available for Legends, from Vice himself:

Yes, fusion laser you should be able to get in hidden places with high technology. Try some hidden stations in nebulae or astroid fields that are in high tech areas......;)

I managed to get both the fusion laser and the Banshee at 3588 SX, 0 SY, -1808 SZ in Pearl.

After testing it out, I'd like to reverse what I said earlier about the Bashee. It is a precision instrument and a pretty good one at that. Compared to the Maxim-R, I think that it fits my fighting style better. Only fire when you've got at least a 50% chance of hitting a target - it drains energy fast and isn't the best at hitting missiles, but when it hits - it is quite potent. Also, you've got problems if the enemy fires excaliburs at you.

I seem to have a new problem - Excaliburs tend to hit friendly targets after they hit enemy ones.

Now I am looking for a Mantis drive to complete my loadout.

when using excal, after target is destroyed, if missles are targeting friendly's, then press "T" to change target. keep pressing "T" to make stray missles go back and forth until
they detonate between targets

What to do if there's just one friendly nearby? I think that the only real option seems to be to get use the guns in that case.

Also, where to get a Mantis Drive? Another hidden planet?

 Yes to both. There is danger in using Excals when there's also a likelihood you'll have a few left over, seeking any target, after you've destroyed the last Red. Hitting a Navy capital ship will send your reputation far, far downhill.

The easiest way is probably to buy it off someone in multiplayer. Another way, if you don't want to wait to find the wormhole to Sol is to fly manually from the closest system. I think it takes something like 1200 fuel so make sure you equip a level 3 or 4 fuel tank if you do it this way (also, don't set autopilot to the center of the system because your ship doesn't like jumping into the sun). When you get the mantis drive it will take half the time to get around and find undiscovered hidden planets.

Actually, station inventory resets after a while (and upon reloading). The place where you got the Banshee and the Fusion Laser also has a good chance of offering a Mantis Drive.

In case you're in a hurry, save and then selfdestruct until you find the item in question. Yes, that's a cheap trick. Still, once you go Mantis, you'll never go back.

LOL....That is why I never buy anything from a dealer they always rip you of, they have to, that is the only way for them to make a profit. I buy the Mantis Drive directly from the manufacturer....and I'm not going to tell you where it is....:P...
however I have yet to find a Praying Mantis Manufacturer...:P:P:P:P:P

I got mine off Ebay! Found out later that I had to buy a conversion kit to make it work, but after some complicated wiring, I got it to work!:P

They're pretty rare in known space due to a slight...hitch in the manufacturing process...

Blackthorne: It's powered by a FORSAKEN CHILD!?!
Dr. Mantis: Might be, kind of—I mean, I didn't use the whole thing!

-Blackthorne, got his from a factory outlet.

Got one for $6 million. They are sold at all hidden planets apparently. Just keep on resetting the game until you get one.

The hidden planets seem to pay extra for stuff like platinum. In terms of money to time, I wonder if it is worth going back to a hidden planet to sell platinum versus just going to a non-hidden technology planet.
