Technical Game Help

Post by Busch »

This is for Vice, or anyone who can help. I am playing EL Rev 1.235 on a dual-core, 4G mem, Win Vista Ult. box; with all the bells and whistles finely tuned. I run EL in mostly MP-mode as I like the more dynamic quality of the game-play. My roommate is an occassional host/client in the game, as in sometimes he hosts. Mostly I host in MP on our internal network and fly solo in MP-space.
My Problem: When I am solo host in MP, I/my character am/is paying some outrageous gelt for three station licenses I cancelled - completely. Unfortunately, I can not recall in which host/client session, in which edition of EL I both bought and curtailed the station licenses. I have gone through the known EL universe (and some not-so-known), in both MP and solo play, looking for those pesky stations and outposts where I (in character) was last working when I retired the individual license. For the record, I currently have only one station license in the Sierra CZ, at Command Alpha.
I have un-installed/re-installed the game in Rev 1.235 twice now, and have been unable to clear the problem.
Could you, or any other EL pilot/operator, geekster gamester suggest a remedy, please?

Seriously.

Thanks Eclipse for responding. Will do on te Rev 1.288. However the messages I am getting on the upper left of screen are "Station fee collected for: O" ,two occurrances of this. And "Station fee collected for: 1", one occurrance. I am also getting the same message "Station fee collected for: Sierra Command", which I don't mind and thought was part of the "normal" game settings. I am getting the hangar fee notice as well. Pretty much all else appears usual in comparrison to what my roommate is running, and I have no other problems with the game. I will collect and apply Rev 1.288 post-haste and shall see if that may cure the problem. Thanks!

If it doesn't cure the problem, send me your profile attached to an e-mail. Sounds like there may be some kind of legacy corruption from an older build that introduced a flaw in the template. Should be an easy fix.

Technical Game Help

Post by Busch »

Gentlemen or Mesdames, as the case may be, thank you all for your responses and welcomes. I am happy to be aboard.
First let me start with what Eclipse suggested with the Rev update. I uninstalled what I had, used CCleaner on the outcome, rebooted, and installed Rev 1.288. Hoo Boy, what messes I step into, I sware! Was at Command Alpha, Sierra CZ upon re-spawn. Checked all station screens, watching upper left most skosh. All station screens then being relative to current rating & etc., upper left screen advised of station fee collected for Sierra Command, as is what I am currently licensed for. Then a whole squat-load of other station fees appeared, last count was 15. Yes, boys and girls, fifteen station fees coming right out of you know where......
Very quickly, I terminated my EL experience, and went to an uneasy slumber. Was on the short end of the stick for quality sleep-time, as I had to work this AM, my time.
As I have briefed through your replies, I see that Sir Vice may very well be correct on the legacy corruption angle. I so try not to be a Delbert with loading aboard updates to games and other apps as the case may be; I may unconsciously, unwittingly, shot my self in the foot - game-wise. So, Sir Vice, my profile might be located exactly where in the installed game files? It appears that I have two iterations of the file "sw3dg" on my system. One is located on my main drive, and one is located on my game drive, in what is a standard load-in, specifically "Evochrom Legends". Am not looking at them right now, but know this to be true. The one on my main drive appears to be mostly textual in nature. The one on my game drive appears as the previous iterations have, that is mostly game play files, et. al. And, as Eclipse has suggested, the station fee notices, except for where I am currently, printed out as blanks or number values.
Am currently in-forum though the game/inet interface. Will not, at this point, load into the game until I can get this issue resolved. Am not willing to spend frustration points in trade for game points.
I shall entertain your suggestions on how to proceed.

Thank you all!!!

Details on save data files and folders are available here: http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3433

In short, you want the pilotX.sw files where X is the number slot starting from 0.

Sir Vice,
It appears that I can not immediately send you that file using the SW Contact link and will have to go another route. I did read the save data thread, and have found that I have two keymap files; one is keymap0.sw, the other is keymap8.sw. I also have the other files, specifically a single pilot0.sw file on my main drive as was suggested in the above thread. I shall attempt to send the polit0.sw file to you another way. Your suggestions/directions are truly appreciated.

Thanks!

pilot0.sw would be the only one I'd need if it's the only pilot file present.

 As a side note, the pilot0.sw file you receive in return will not look like the one you send (assuming you examined it via Notepad). I don't suggest messing with it yourself. But, if you take another look after saving your profile, it'll make more sense. Nonetheless, I still wouldn't suggest messing with it.

Thanks Marvin. Will follow your advice on the file. Yes, I have examined, via Notepad, this file as well as the others. Am currently using the cosmic one as an ephemeris. I do truly appreciate your suggestion. Thanks for the help!

 NP. I do suggest saving a copy of the repaired file and another copy after your first save ... as reference material should the problem crop up again.

Jes! Da, my idee' is fixed! Now we dance Mamushka!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D
Uno poquito problemo, por favor! It is still showing/charging for SC-C and Oly Station. Rechecked on fly-thru. Both ask for buying station license.
When I plugged in the file fix, I did cut-paste/over-write tactic in Win Vista. Do I need to delete the corrupted file first, then implant the corrected profile? Since I do have two keymapx.sw files in the same location as the pilotX.sw file. Could this be a conflict as well? Should I terminate the lowest number value key map file? Am somewhat tactically and technically proficient in multi-media mangling. If'n I don't know the answer rite off, or cain't find the 'zact location of the burr under me saddle, I kin always RTFM.
Seriously, thank you Vice and new chum Shawn for your invaluable assistance, and for your righteously prompt response on the fix.

Muchas Gracias, Mi buen nuevo amigos!

Am remiss in duties.
Thanks to Eclipse, thetiebers, Marvin, and Maarschalk for all your help and invites. You are all members of the goodly company. FNG's such as myself from time to time need help, and will have the sense enough I hope, to reach out to those who are willing to give of themselves, such as you have. May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the gentle rain fall upon your fertile fields. And may the One Who Is hold you cupped in the palm of his hand.

An especial Thank you to Vice and his crew. Keep up the Good Work!
BTW: Echo Mike looks stunning!

The keymap files are unrelated to your profiles, so you don't need to do anything with them. You can delete the corrupt profile entirely if you wish, just keep backups of the new corrected profile (and simply save in different slots in-game also, if desired). The stations you mentioned may not have licenses associated with them (licenses are a one time fee anyway), but they did have items stored in hangars. You can clear those fees by removing the items from their hangars, or leave the items there until you want them and continue paying the hangar fees.

To All & Sundry: All is well!
AAR: Successful resolution to my problem, after complete wipe and reload of games files and deletion of corrupt file. Cut & pasted the cleaned copy of pilot file in the required folder, rather impetuously did some other things by way of an experiment and.........
NTS:*DO NOT DELETE KEYMAPX.SW FILES*! These are those which contain the activation # for the game, as well as other pertinent info required by your iteration of the EL universe.
After recovery, reloaded backup keymap files, started the game, and had a very much appreciated experience.
Your timely advice, assistance, and support was absolutely marvelous! I can't say Thank You enough! To be really honest, I didn't expect the kind and quality of the response my plight received; and feel very honored to be worthy of the attention and time spent.
I am truly in your debt.

Thank you, Sir. Yes, the FUN has resumed in my small part of the EL universe.
BTW, have been reading in most of the EL blogs, following along with some of the discussions contained there in. Especially regarding the sim/game servers available on the Information Super Goat Trail. For a somewhat modest fungie like myself, where or upon which unsuspecting universe should I inflict myself? Strictly in character, of course. Would never wish to impose upon some one's sacred chao. Don't want to harsh anyone's mellow. I do understand, it's all and should be in fun... Sure, until someone looses an eye, then it's effin' hilarious:P:P:P:P:P.
Just basically enjoy terminating Vonari caps, claiming salvage rights, making lots of C-bills in trade/contract runs. Know a certain aquamarine area, and am a wolfman from waaaayy back!:D Been eastwards of the Dog Star, the Virgin, the Oysters' Child; and west of the Ram. Have done the Grand Canyon-CZ tour.....Dude. And I leave the "V" place pretty much alone. Just your basic xenophobic merc/trader, trying to make an honest:)living. Yeah, right! What he said! If you could/would recommend, I may see you there under CS [HF]FADM Bush. (Had to drop a letter for the naming convention protocol)

Kindest regards,
