You must be kidding! Only a true HOTAS set-up will do!
I think most players use the Saitek X52 or X52 Pro
I prefer the X45, but I'm an old fuddy-duddy!

I myself use a joystick setup. (Logitech Xtreme 3D Pro.)
However, a mouse and keyboard is MORE then doable. It comes down to preference. Before I got my joystick setup properly. (Deadspace etc. etc.) I prefered the good 'ol mouse.
If you can get a wii-mote working, I'll be impressed.

I use the X-52 (Pro) but you have to be careful if you purchase one. Mine seems to be doing great but a few people complain about its longevity. All I can say is don't treat it like a tonka truck ha ha! But yeah the X52 has a billion buttons and axis' and allows you to map everything personally. And if your look through the forums there is a generic profile you can download for it so you have a refrence to go off of.

AkA a joystick with twist control, my old ( broken stick ) has the following:
twist, throttle and hat, along with 6 buttons, and did just fine for me, but I agree with MM if you are right-handed, there is no substitute for the x52 or x45

I'm presently (and salivatingly!) awaiting delivery of my Saitek X52 pro! My Saitek Cyborg finally died after a long, protracted illness, and I've been without a controller for a couple of months. I've tried using mouse/keyboard but it just doesn't have that "pilot" feel that a joystick has!

Always nice to feel welcome! In a " Breathe the cold inky black airless vacuum of deep space Newbie!" kind of way.
Thanks for the thoughts on controllers. I'll have a fart about with mouse and KB to start and then see what alternatives present themselves. The X52 costs a billion dollars here in Aus so I'll have to figure out how to get that past the minister of finance.
My minister of finance has a built in lie detector.......some how my lies are relatively never convincing enough to her....which is a good thing. Prevents me from making big financial mistakes....LOL...:P:P:P:P

Well I love the indie game dev scene and so I've gone and bought Legends. I bought it through GamersGate as I didn't want to put my CC details up on yet another web site. Hopefully Vice gets a reasonable slice of the $24USD.
Spent an hour last night doing a few simple Sapphire missions and getting to grips with the interface. Asteroid clearing, window washing (solar panels) and Fed Ex. Also did a bit of diamond mining as well.
BTW - What is with the odd structure on the moon (I think its a moon)? Sort of like a circular building with a pointy top. When I got close to it I got a ground proximity warning and flew back into space. Didn't seem to have a landing pad/tractor thingy...

You can actually land on moons and planet surfaces just turn inertia on and all your thrusters off and you will auto land on surface, Except for a relative few like Earth...lol......

So I've been playing for a while (SP) and farting about in Sapphire and ventured into Olympus for a slightly more dangerous life. I've mananged to cobble together enough cash to upgrade my ship quite a bit and hire some crew.
I've three times ventured into another system from Olympus or Sapphire and every time I have been swarmed by red dots. I meant 10 or more. It usually starts with just three or four but before I can even bring my guns to bear I get swarmed by all their mates.
In Olympus I can mostly take out groups of reds in missions with usually no damage. I think the most I have had to fight is 4 at once. But the other systms are definitely very
Any suggestions or should I just perservere in Olympus till I can shoot down a red from 5 clicks just by looking at him crossly!
generally i find only thuban you get swamped with reds in the early game, if you get swamped just alt+f2 out.
