Okay so I downloaded this game and at first I was very frustrated with it. Then I took a deep breath, squashed my instinct (to not ask for directions), and started browsing forums. I got this game two days ago, and have played about seven hours of it. Amazing game, way better than X-3 TC IMO. But as a new player I had a few questions.

1. When I type in coordinates into the map screen, why doesn't my nav point lock onto the input coordinates? Am I not seeing a button or something? I enter values for X, Y, and Z.
2. Can I play MP even though I only have 26kbs internet speed? I was playing DOWII Chaos rising online with very little lag, but that's only on THE LAST STAND.
3. Does your ship from SP carry over to MP? Or do you start fresh? I wouldn't mind starting fresh because I just started.

Hi and welcome, were you playing a space-arcade game then this guy approached you after you got the high score, whisked you away into space leaving an android replica of yourself back here on earth ( I hate it when that happens ). BTW yes there is a flower of death maneuver

it should do, you need to hit enter after entering each value, there are also 2 sets of co-ords, x,y,z and SX,SY,SZ the SX etc ones govern the sector and the normal ones the position within it.

you possibly can, but you're likely pushing it.

yes it does although some servers ( though none atm iirc ) can require you to have an MP only profile.

I didn't realize you had to enter the second set of coordinates. It looks kinda intimidating right now but I'll cruise the forums for some help.

Other than some guy named Romulan it seems like the online community is very supportive. But then again you know he adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. I wouldn't mind writing a fan-fic story about him once I get to know the whole deal. Funny how angry he makes people though, heh heh.

Maarschalk thanks for inviting me and your right! Recruiters love to use lines like "Go to exotic places and see new peoples". Or as me and my friends say "Go to third world countries and be political tools while unintentionally financing terrorism by pouring billions into the corrupt political systems of those countries." (In more or less words) NATO is such a strange thing.

And to everyone else welcoming me! Really appreciate the support you guys give newcomers! This is the most positive gaming experience I have had yet! And its only been a few hours since my first post! If anyone wants to chat hit me up on the yahoo (if I'm not on U2U)

Hello and welcome, glad you're enjoying the game. The nav point should update with every XYZ change, even before you press enter, but if you change the Y value and you're in overhead view or the Z value and you're in rear view, it won't appear to move due to the perspective.

Don't be afraid to join MP. Most players are very helpful and can answer questions.
Sometimes even the server will chat w/you if your timing is right!

There is a thread explaining, in depth, how to navigate via the Console ... unfortunately, the meat of the thread has been overshadowed by the lettuce, tomato, and mayo. That being said:

If you only change the X, Y and Z coordinates, you aren't going to go anywhere outside your current sector. Far more importantly, you need to set the sector coordinate (SX, SY and SZ)!

Edit: Okay ... here's the main point of the thread mentioned above (via copy & paste) ...

No Matter How You Look at It

So, enter the correct sector coordinates into the windows shown in Pix 7, then activate your autopilot. Assuming you have plenty of fuel and a reasonable amount of patience, you and your ship will begin a series of hyper-jumps, not stopping until youâ€™ve reached your destination.

If youâ€™ve made a mistake in entering X, Y and/or Z, no big problem â€¦ open the Navigation Map and make the appropriate corrections.

But, if youâ€™ve made a mistake in entering sector coordinates â€¦ well, you could find yourself on the wrong side of the galaxy. And out of gas. Big problem.

Yeah I tried MP last night it worked pretty well. My service provider sucks though, so when everyone started waking up and getting online my speed went from 265kbs to like 8kbs and I kept getting dropped. And thanks for the help on the map, I didn't understand the whole second set of coordinates thing. I suppose that the more I practice the less intimidating everything will seem. And a note on Romulan, I will endeavor to study the Romulan species before writing. Since I know nothing about Star Trek (Save for a few quotes.)

oh and admiral, mind if i use romulan as a long term villain in the fires of twilight? he would of corse be portraiyed in a position of power as a recurring villain.

he won't appear for a few parts, not untill the escape arc is completed, but he will appear in the part after or the part after that hopefully
