Olympus - Home of the Gods, is available 24/7 for you to enjoy and explore.
I am Zeus and I will be your host on Olympus. First let me tell you a bit about myself.
I'm 56 years old and have been in the computer world since 1977. Yes I did start before Bill was even thinking about DOS! And I am older than dirt! lol
So with that out of the way, I have been playing space based multiplayer games since the 1990 release of Wing Commander and I have been hooked ever since. In 2003 I started playing Freelancer and that led to me to starting my own server and building a community called (what else but) Olympus - Home of the Gods. I built the servers, bought the equipment to run them, and put long hours of B,S,&T into making it into a multi-site complex with my servers in Texas and one in Europe, hosted by my friend Otto. I had a good time doing this for 5 years and finally turned it over to the creator of the Mod I was running. I did not get to play much in the last few years as the community needs grew too fast and only a few of us did the work.
So now this brings me to today and what I hope will be fun again, playing with friends and enjoying this new game. I have several things to offer the community and I don't want anyone else that runs a server to think I am trying to take away their player base since the game only supports 35 players, I thought maybe another server will bring more new players into the game.
Anyway I hope to see all of you in space and I am looking forward to making new friends and maybe getting some of my old friends to come here as well.
Now for some tech info so you know what Olympus is made of.
Olympus - home of the Gods (Deep in the Heart of Texas)
Game Server 1: Custom built (by me)
Dual AMD Opteron 290's
Tyan S2892 server mainboard
Dual GB ethernet (sorry only to the switch so far as AT&T has not run fiber to me yet...lol)
8 GB ECC Reg. Ram
2 - 500 GB SATA II hard drives
1 - 400 GB LTO-2 tape drive and backup software
ATI X1600 Pro video card (had to use it to get D#D HW Acceleration working for server program)
Windows 2003 R2 64-bit server OS
4U rack mount case with very loud fans
Development Server and Teamspeak Server:
(another custom build)
Dual AMD Opteron 290's
Tyan S2895 server mainboard
Dual GB ethernet
8 GB ECC Reg. Ram
6 TB of SATA II hard drive space
1 - 400 GB LTO-2 tape drive and backup software
Windows 2003 R2 64-bit server OS
4U rack mount case with very loud fans
1 Dell PowerConnect 5224 24 port GB managed ethernet Switch
2 - APC SmartUPS 1500 Watt UPS systems
1 - 8 port KVM
2 - Baytech remote-controlled power strips (allows remote power cycle of equipment)
And all of this is in it's own air conditioned 10 x 12 room built so Olympus could exist. (I don't need a heater in the winter as the servers provide plenty of that!)
I also have my own domain (olympus.gwcdata.com) and will be setting up my web site once again to display and show server stats, player stats (if available), and may other items like server connection info for the Gmae Server and Teamspeak Server.
Thanks again for welcoming me to your community and I hope I can provide a little enjoyment in retrurn.
