ROFL, Let me be the first to welcome you to Evochron Legends, Look out for Romulan and some other Bad Aliens that like to make stardust out of newbies. Romulan does not speak however he just destroys you...as part of a welcoming ritual. The Bad Aliens Clan [BA] are a little friendlier with their welcoming ritual, at least they talk to you. and then there are the Terrasins, Borg and the Cylon twins. And the Rest of us are pretty helpful and protecting of newbies if so desired...LOL....:P:P:P:P:P

I just found out about this game and so far I am very impressed. I too plan on buying the game as it meets my needs just from the features list. I used to host a server for another space based game and I am looking forward to starting up a server using your game.

I have a few questions on the server requirements;

A) Will the server code run on Windows 2003 64-bit server with dual AMD dual-core processors?

B) How much RAM is needed for the server code?

C) How many players can the code support at once?

D) How much bandwidth is used per player?

I have the bandwidth, hardware (Servers, backup systems, UPS, etc.), and environment to support players from all over the world. I also have a dedicated server for running Teamspeak 2 and 3 for voice communications. I am not a commercial hosting company so anyone would be welcome and no fee/charge would ever be required or asked for. I just want to get back into hosting/playing a game that is fun with a community that supports the game and wants to have fun.

Thanks in advance,

a, yes it should do

b, its pretty minimal, I can't give you an accurate figure but it'll run fine on a machine using vista with 1GB of RAM

c, iirc 23 players on at one time

d, i have no idea, though guidance for bandwidth / player limits is included in the readme

Be advised, though, that you'll have a very difficult time pulling current players off the B5 server. The host of that server sits at his chat console and oversees the operation like ... well, like Zeus over Mt. Olympus.

A) Will the server code run on Windows 2003 64-bit server with dual AMD dual-core processors?
It's compatible with that setup, so long as it has the required 3D video card installed and DirectX (minimal 3D support required, but it is needed).
B) How much RAM is needed for the server code?
Generally uses about 50 MB of RAM at idle, 512 MB minimum for the entire system would be recommended to leave room for peak use and other tasks.
C) How many players can the code support at once?
35 if the connection/network can handle it.
D) How much bandwidth is used per player?
I'd likely need to check on this to be sure, but the guideline in the instructions is a good general estimate for connection speeds and number of players.

Thanks for the answers and I will be downloading and installing this weekend. And as far as players being pulled, well that is not what I want to do. I want to add players and help build the community. There should be plenty of players out there once they find out about this and try it.

Thanks again and look for ...

Olympus - Home of the Gods hosting Evochron Legends

coming soon !

Zeus

P.S. Does the server version of the code need anything more than a low powered video card?

Just the minimum specs listed in the instructions and the drivers needed to run the video card. Welcome aboard.

Hi Zeus, Welcome to the game and forum. That is a great Idea. At the moment there is only one Server running 24/7 for Evochron Legends. So it is always good to have more servers running in case one goes out of Service once in a while and that has happened in the past. Hope to see you out there and I may visit your Server some time when you get it up and running...;)

Just an update on getting the server code running. I have had a little problem in using the server setup I had for the other game. It was in a 2U case and the built-in video system on the Tyan S2892 server board did not support the game server code. So I had to switch the case out for a 4U one to install a video card that can support 3D and DirectX9. I am hoping to finish this weekend and try the server code again.

I do have one more question...

Does the server version of the game require a license to run since it is a server version and I assume that, like other game servers, that a client version of the code is not run on that machine?

Thank you,
