A few nights ago I was challenged to a race by Oasis through the trade consul, it was not a contract. How can I do that? Can I race AI as well?

You can race AI in single player mode or human players in multiplayer. To race offline, accept the contract to race another ship or the clock. To race online, open the trade console with another player and have one of you click on the 'Send Race Challenge' option. Then start the race when you're ready. A message will display as each of you completes the course.

Yes, racing is fun some times, it relatively depends who you are racing thou....LOL...
