Good Morning from the UK, I have been playing the EL Demo and am thinking about buying it. One question(so far) is can the XBox 360 Wired Gamepad for Windows be used in this game. I attempted to set it up in the Demo last night, but was unsuccessful?

I believe it can. Seems to me someone made a post about it some time back, but I'm not good at research.
Hopefully another member will come along w/more info.
Good Luck!

Thanks for that, my Demo timer has now run out and I have bought the game via Paypal, but as of yet, some 15 minutes after paying for it, I haven't received the key to get back into the game!

Also I am having some problems with docking, I get the red channel to fly through, but invariably it just takes me to the side of the station/ship. Also I am having problems finding astroids and mining from them.

Thanks guys, regarding docking, all I ever see are the red guidelights, and I follow them in, only to be stopped at the side of the ship or planet:/

If you're docking at a station, not a planet, look for the blue haze surrounding the top of the station, that's your docking bay. Just head straight towards it and it'll suck you in when you get close enough. As the others have said, the docking indicator turns from red to green when you are on target for a good dock.

Enjoy the game, welcome to El and the forum. Hope to see you in MP.

Hi India51A, welcome to the game and forum, hope to see you out there once you get your activation key. I heard it sometimes ends up in your spam folder of your e-mail or blocked or delete bin of your e-mail. But Vice should be able to sort that out for you....;)

It took about 24 hours before I got my key - the wait was worth it. Remember, Vice has to release the key and he lives in the US, a good 6 hours behind us in the UK. There is a rumour that he sleeps - sometimes! :)

Welcome to Evochron India51A!

The ship controls and handling will be a bit overwhelming at first but stick to it and it will become second nature. It's important to remember, the docking and/or planet guide lights are really only a reference and not required for successful docking. For stations you will always see a blue forcefield at the top and as long as you fly in to that (no matter what side) you will dock. You can do it from any speed too.

Also, if docking isn't happening automatically it's usually because you turned off auto dock. You can toggle this on the top right of your heads up display near the compass. You can also manually activate the docking sequence by hitting F3 once you are within docking radius.

There is no auto pilot dock, but here is a tip we all use to dock fast and take the leg work out of it. Hit F1 for your nav map and RIGHT-click the station. Close the map and turn off IDS. This is the important part. Before warping, center your target reticle and heading perfectly in the center and at 0 degrees. Now hit F2 to warp and if you did it right, you will "coast" directly in to the docking bay.

I hope this helps! Good luck and we hope to see you in MP! :)

Thanks man, that also seems a little complicated, however I just got my activation key and managed to dock at a station.

I'm following the strategy guide atm, and it tells me to get a tractor beam, which I have, and head out to the astroid field. Only thing is, I can't find the astroid field!

Hmm, tried that fast dock trick of yours and blew up on the station!!

Still can't locate the astroid field either!:(

 Asteroid fields show up on the navigation map. Set a waypoint, same as for a station ... by placing your cursor over the asteroid icon on the map and right-clicking. A safe jump point is where your cursor shows a set of coordinates ... else, you might jump directly into an asteroid. (Ergo, to be safe, always save before trying something new.)

Be advised that planets (especially near a city) offer the quickest way to make money while mining. (I suppose that piece of advice could be considered a spoiler.)

Always make sure to level your pitch to 0 before you engage the jump drive, otherwise your arrival point could put you in a dangerous location.

:o I'd also be a bit wary of turning off IDS when jumping. Granted, it allows you to "coast" into a station ... but it also allows you to coast directly into an asteroid. Or construct station. And, if your heading and/or pitch is off by much, you'll be flying toward parts of the station that are far less forgiving whenever ship meets metal at speeds approaching 4k.

More about asteroid fields: after a safe jump into a field, you might not actually see any asteroids. They are spread out in clumps. So, you can either fly around until you spot a clump ... or accept a contract for clearing an area of asteroids. Asteroid contracts always supply a waypoint near enough for you to actually see the field of asteroids.

Thanks all for that useful info, one more piece of info required; what does the astroid field icon look like?

Here's another question(bet you're fed up of me already :o), I want to create a ship for mining with lots of cargo space, I currently have made about £147000 doing contracts. Will that be enough to create such a ship in the shipyard?

Depends on the location and frame type. If you strip down a small frame to maximize its cargo capacity, you might be able to get a cargo hauler for that cheap in Sapphire or a nearby system.

It's not just your pitch, it's your heading. If your IDS is off and your heading is ALSO not aligned center, your trajectory will be screwed up out of warp and you'll miss the docking bay, or worse.. slam in to something and explode. lol
