tractor beam question

hey guys, sorry if this question is a little newbish, but i dont recall this being coverered in the tutorial...

ive bought a tractor beam.. ive got it locked onto a cargo container from a destroyed ship... i cant figure out how to use it to get that cargo into my own cargo bay..

any help?

If you have an empty cargo bay the cargo containers contents will be beamed into it when you push the "B" key to activate the beam.

hmm.. thats what i thought i was doing.. the blue beam is locked onto the crate, but nothing is appearing in my cargo bay. hmm. il try again. thanks

Sometimes the beam may seem to be touching the container but you may need to get closer. At least that is one thing to try.

It also depends what is in the container and the amount and also If you have an empty cargo bay, I mean completely empty.
Also you can lock the beam with Alt+B wich keeps the beam going and just fly closer till it beams the stuff into your empty cargo bay and then you can release the beam....
