Looks like in the screen shot above the Keys 0 and 1 or is that o and l have been asigned to turning left and right and not the arrow keys. Did you try the arrow keys asignment to the keyboard which is the default and map those to your joysticks button 3 and 4...?

Hmmm...that is strange. I've just double checked and my control mode is definately set at 'joystick' yet I am also still able to use the keyboard to control. Can anyone else confirm this is the norm?Originally posted by Meneliki
yeah but when im in 'joystick' mode, the keyboard controls for movement do not work.. even on the keyboard. So mapping my joystick to keys that aren't doing anything doesn't help.
to clarify: The Left and Right arrow keys turn my craft as needed, while im in Keyboard mode. However, when i switch over to "Joystick" mode, the left and right arrows do NOTHING. Therefore, mapping my joystick to them does nothing.

What OS are you using? and are you using a USB or PS/2 keyboard?

WinXP Pro 32 Bit, SP3
USB Keyboard/mouse
also, even when i assign a keyboard key to Turn Left/Right, the same thing happens. the craft wanders off in the opposite direction, slowly, with a slight roll sometimes. Sometimes it wanders down. or up. Doesnt make any sense. But when i switch to Keyboard mode, the buttons work fine.
Seems to be the actual Turn Left/Turn Right method calls that are bugged (at least for me) while the game is in Joystick mode.

Very interesting how the input of one device could potentially be effecting the input of another unrelated device on your system. In addition to Eclipse's suggestion above, I'd also suggest relocating the joystick to a different USB port temporarily to see if anything changes there that might relate to some kind of conflict.

All work fine. But I did need to adjust the joystick's dead zone to keep the stick from wandering. I also usually need to do a control check when launching the game after initial computer boot-up.

Yeah but the same problem happens even when im using keyboard keys to turn left and right while the control scheme is setup as 'joystick'.Originally posted by Vice

To put it another way, whenever my game is in 'joystick' mode, the "Turn Left" and "Turn Right" methods do not work. Im going to try a reinstall.

That's what I'm saying. When you use the keyboard only mode, the game ignores axis input from the joystick entirely. Yet when you activate the joystick mode (causing the game to pay attention to that device), the buttons seem to be falsely returning axis signals (or other buttons/key signals) to the game as though there is an overlap/conflict in the driver, device, or hardware setup.Yeah but the same problem happens even when im using keyboard keys to turn left and right while the control scheme is setup as 'joystick'.

Don't forget that training mode does not deduct from demo time.Originally posted by Meneliki

I've decided that Evochron Legends is the kindof game I could really immerse myself in, and so i think I'm going to buy it. My favourite game-download website is having a sale for the next few weeks, so I'm going to watch and see if Evochron pops up. If not, il snag it from the link on this site.
